Man's mission to grow asters at their summer cottage does not end with sowing seeds into the soil. In order for the bushes to branch magnificently, the leaves delight with the freshness of the greenery, the inflorescences were bright and abundant, and by the fall the seeds ripened for procreation, the asters need care. These are the usual chores for gardeners that are performed almost automatically
Loosening the soil
For a better assimilation of nutrients from the soil, the roots of the plant need air, which is difficult to penetrate to depth if the surface of the flower garden is covered with a dense earthen crust after rains or artificial irrigation.
To destroy this crust and prevent weeds from germinating, you have to pick up sharp hoes or metal rakes at least four times during the summer season in order to pave the way for air into the bowels of the earth. In rainy weather, such human intervention in the life of nature has to be resorted to much more often.
After planting seedlings in open ground, the first loosening is carried out. After all, the process of planting a plant leads to significant soil compaction. Consolidation, in turn, will block the flow of air to the roots of the seedlings, and therefore it will be more difficult for her to survive the rooting period.
Further, loosening is resorted to as necessary, in accordance with the weather conditions. The last loosening is done in the fall, in order to prevent weeds from rooting by the next summer season, as well as to maximize the destruction of pest children, nestled in the upper layers of the soil for the winter.
Do not go deeply with loosening, it is enough to loosen to a depth of 6 centimeters. Deep loosening only aggravates the situation, wounding the roots of the aster, carrying out from the depths weed seeds that had no chance to germinate there, but in the upper layers they will show great activity in their revival.
Hilling
To strengthen the root system of asters, a low (up to 7 cm) hilling of the stem is carried out before the bush begins to branch. Strong roots are the key to the health of the whole plant, a guarantee of abundant flowering.
Life-giving water
The source of all living things, water, behaves differently towards asters. Its deficiency or excess equally negatively affects the development of the plant.
If there is not enough water, growth is inhibited, leading to a loss in the size of the inflorescences and their ability to double. Excess water also inhibits plant growth, leading to yellowing and death of the leaves, that is, the loss of additional food stores. In addition, parasitic microscopic fungi are activated in moist soil, infecting aster with diseases such as fusarium and black leg.
Finding the "golden mean" often comes with the personal experience of the gardener. There are, of course, general recommendations that watering in drought should be rare, but abundant. It is better to water in the evening, in order to loosen the soil the next morning or afternoon. If forecasters predict the approach of drought, then you should not wait for its arrival, but you should start watering. The fact is that late watering will not be able to solve the problems of growing asters.
Fertilizing
We talked in detail about fertilizing with you in Part 3.
Do not forget that the "royal" features of asters are not friends with fresh dung.
Pest control
Weeds with a shallow root system are destroyed when the soil is loosened. You cannot get rid of perennial weeds with powerful taproots by such loosening. But even uprooting their roots is not always handy. In such cases, the weeds are "worn out". Three or four times, cutting down the emerging aerial part of the weed with a sharp hoe, you thereby deplete its nutritional reserves, and the weed surrenders to the mercy of the winner, leaving the flower garden alone.
To avoid infections with fungal diseases, the relationship between water and asters should be regulated.
Pinching and garter bushes
To form the splendor of the bushes, you can pinch the stems in accordance with your tastes.
Tall varieties of asters may require a garter of bushes, although they often do without it.

Annual Aster. Part 5

They weave intrigues, pull out large and insignificant crime from the secluded corners of the star life, trying to "tarnish" the reputation of the star and throw the idol of many people off a convenient pedestal. This fate does not bypass the plants. Many enemies surround the starry aster, trying to erase its presence from the face of the Earth. But the aster has a wise and hardworking defender who seeks to protect her from adversity
Annual Aster. Part 3
Let us recall the conditions in which Asters, descending from heaven to the sinful Earth, feel more comfortable, grow strong and hardy, bloom profusely and for a long time, delighting a person with their starry beauty
Annual Aster. Part 2
Aster cannot be confused with any other plant, although there are many externally similar flowers in the garden kingdom. It is not for nothing that a French botanist of the 18th century dubbed her "The Queen of Daisies". But queens also have biological traits, which we will try to get to know today
Annual Aster. Part 1
The Creator, tired of improving the planet Earth, decided to settle a person on it so that he would continue his work. At first, man lived by collecting what had already been created. Gradually, learning about the world, discovering its wonders, he took the initiative into his own hands and began to actively transform the already beautiful world. He paid special attention to the delightful world of flowers, including the annual aster, which is also called the "Chinese Astra"
