The Creator, tired of improving the planet Earth, decided to settle a person on it so that he would continue his work. At first, man lived by collecting what had already been created. Gradually, knowing the world, discovering its wonders, he took the initiative into his own hands and began to actively transform the already beautiful world. He paid special attention to the delightful world of flowers, including the annual aster, which is also called the "Chinese Astra"
The most popular ornamental plant
Such popularity as the Chinese aster enjoys among gardeners, perhaps, is not found in any other flower, which grow in a huge variety on our unique planet.
It would seem so much hassle with these annuals! It is much easier to plant perennials in a summer cottage that require much less attention and time-consuming. But even the most lazy and business people will definitely add the Chinese aster to their unpretentious perennials.
"Earthly stars" ("aster" means "star") conquer with a variety of plant sizes and inflorescences; perfection of forms and richness of color palette of flowers; magnificent and abundant flowering. Looking at the flower garden of asters, it seems that the very starry sky descended to the Earth to triumph over life.
Forever young
Since ancient times, people have been looking for the elixir of youth, not guessing to learn from flowers. The annual aster, which archaeologists discover in the paintings of royal tombs during excavations of ancient cities, in which life was in full swing two to three thousand years ago, remains young, graceful and attractive today.
The ancient Greeks revered aster and made amulets out of it, protecting from dark forces invisible to people, and from real misfortunes, which in all ages fell a lot on one troubled human head.
Astra is always close to youth. The peak of her celebration falls on September 1, when first-graders importantly walk to their first lesson, carrying bright bouquets of Chinese aster in their hands.
Astra - traveler
An adjective combined with the word "aster" is like a line from a birth certificate in which the place of birth is written. Everyone, of course, guessed that the one-year-old aster was born in China.
For a long time, the Chinese hid from the rest of the world the "stellar" beauty that decided to descend from heaven to the sinful Earth. But times are changing.
Beginning in the 16th century, intoxicated by the stories of travelers about the riches of China, Europeans, including the French, began to penetrate its territory more and more often. Along with silk, porcelain, fragrant healing tea, at the beginning of the 18th century, a French priest brought aster seeds. He presented the seeds to Antoine Jussier, one of the famous French botanical dynasty. After sowing seeds in the royal garden, Antoine raised the first asters on European soil. Since they looked like daisies, but exceeded them in size and the brightness of their outfits, Jussier awarded them the title of "Queen of Daisies".
From France, the asters continued their journey across Europe, moving first to England and then to Germany. At the same time, they appear in Russia.
There is no limit to perfection
The meticulous Englishmen were not satisfied with the available colors and began creative work, as a result of which white, purple and red flowers appeared in the world. By the end of the 18th century, through the labors and prayers of the British, the ranks of asters were replenished with purple, lilac, blue and pink inflorescences, causing delight and increasing the number of their admirers.
The peak of popularity of asters in Europe came in the middle of the 19th century, when terry specimens were bred to compete with peonies in their splendor and beauty.
No less attention was paid to tall tubular species of asters, the inflorescences of which were formed from needle-shaped flowers. The creative imagination of the breeders did not stop there, giving us such an abundance of colors, shapes, sizes that the Almighty did not even dream of even in a dream.
