False-lingual marginal flowers of Echinacea inflorescences mournfully incline their sharp tips to the ground, as if together with people grieve about the transience of life. The more bright colors they try to absorb into their petals in order to decorate the moment of their stay in this delightful world. Echinacea stretches with long peduncles to the sun, demonstrating to the heavens the beauty of multi-flowered single baskets. And together with heaven, people admire and rejoice, looking at earthly perfection
Botanical characteristic
Describing plants, botanists become poets, because otherwise it is impossible to convey all the small details that make up the perfection of the representatives of the plant world.
Polycarpous plant
Echinacea's life doesn't end when summer ends. Its multi-headed short rhizome manages to prepare nutrients for future use, giving life to new shoots next spring.
Such plants, capable of blooming and bearing fruit many times over many years, are called "polycarpic" by scientists.
Stems and leaves
Echinacea loves to be fashionable, sometimes changing its appearance. Its stems can be simple or slightly branched. They appear to the viewer either naked (in which nature gave birth), then they put on a soft pubescence or are covered with hard hairs, to intimidate their ill-wishers.
Echinacea's variety of flavors is also evident in the form of its leaves. They can be sessile, hugging the stem, or fixed on the stem by means of a petiole. Echoing the stem, they are sometimes naked, sometimes pubescent; with a solid edge or edge decorated with large teeth. The shape of the leaves does not lag behind fashion: oblong-ovate or ovate-lanceolate; pointed tip; longitudinal veins clearly protruding on the surface of the leaf - all this turns the leaves into a decorative element of the plant.
Inflorescences
The main decoration of Echinacea is multi-flowered inflorescence baskets, crowning long peduncles, located strictly one inflorescence on each peduncle.
The inflorescences have a very complex structure. Pointed, tiled, herbaceous leaves of the envelope have a lanceolate shape and hard hairs along the edges. Further, there are rigid bracts, dark-colored, subulate-pointed.
The flowers of the inflorescence are of two types: pseudo-ligate sterile marginal and tubular bisexual in the center of the inflorescence.
Life stages
First year of life
Since Echinacea has been living on Earth for more than one year, it is in no hurry to build up its surface power in the first year of life. So, a florist needs to have patience, which, however, is inherent in real amateurs who are engaged in improving and decorating nature.
Seeds devoted to the soil begin to delight with seedlings no earlier than a couple of weeks after sowing. If some of them manage to appear in the world earlier, then their viability will be much lower than that of those who appear in two or even three weeks.
Over the next three months, the plant will slowly accumulate strength in order to make a significant leap in the growth of leaf mass in September.
A similar picture occurs with the root system of Echinacea. The mass of roots from September to cold weather increases by about twenty times, when compared with the period from germination to the first month of autumn.
Second year of life
In the second year of life, Echination takes revenge and at an accelerated pace increases stem and rosette leaves, and from July gives abundant flowering. The formation of inflorescences occurs in May and continues throughout the summer.
In the second year of life, the root system continues to accumulate strength, strengthening the rhizome, giving life to the next generations.
