At the word "echinacea" many people have an association with a pink nondescript flower like chamomile with a dark center. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn that in recent years, breeders have created many varieties with terry shapes. They successfully compete with dahlias, chrysanthemums. Let's consider the most prominent representatives of this group

Variety of colors

The wild species of Echinacea were exceptionally purple in color with simple petals. The modern color palette is so diverse that it includes several colors:

• cream;

• white;

• red;

• orange;

• yellow;

• pink;

• crimson.

The complex structure of inflorescences consists of outer long ligulate and apical tubular short flowers. The build-up occurs gradually from the edge to the center. First, the lower buds bloom, then the middle inflorescences move out, forming a pomp, similar to ice cream. Due to the long growing period, flowering lasts from late June to late autumn. For more than 3 weeks, each "ice cream" flaunts on the bush in all its glory. This property of echinacea attracts gardeners.

Excellent, bright bouquets stand in a vase for a long time without losing their decorative effect. Hard caps can be used as dried flowers in winter compositions.

Modern varieties

Pink Double Deligt. Forms a compact undersized bush with a height of 50-60cm. During the season, it gives many daughter outlets, quickly growing to a lush size. The diameter of the double inflorescence is 8 cm, bright pink, not fading in the sun. By the end of flowering, the color changes to lavender-pink. The variety pleases with its buds from mid-June to late autumn. Under the snow cover it can withstand frosts down to -40 degrees without shelter.

Buttercream. The new representative of the "candy series" is distinguished by a delicate creamy shade with a green eye in the center. The outer petals create a crown around a lush "pomposh" with a slight yellowness. The diameter of fully opened inflorescences is 10-12 cm, pleases its owners from the end of June to the very autumn. Plant height 60-80cm. Frost resistance up to - 35 degrees.

Milkshake. Tall bushes reach 90cm. Powerful stems branch well, forming new shoots. At the age of five, on one plant, there are about 100 double white inflorescences with a yellow-creamy middle. They do not lose their decorative effect for 2 months. The lower petals look down. In the process of blooming the buds, the "caps" are stretched out, forming a cone of a pale light green shade. They have high frost resistance up to -35 degrees. Flowering lasts from July to September.

Pineapple Sundae. A unique variety with yellow, double inflorescences with a diameter of 10 cm. A large pompom in the center is framed by long tongue petals, drooping down, reminiscent of the rays of the sun. The height of powerful, abundantly branched bushes is 70-80cm. Frost resistance at -34 degrees.

Marmelade. Terry, bright orange flowers look great among shiny, dark green, narrow leaves. With a diameter of 10 cm, with a plant height of no more than 70 cm. The volume of the bush in an adult state is 80cm. Pleasing to the eye from July to September. Shows high frost resistance in the middle lane.

Hot Papaya. The unique red-orange color of the buds from afar attracts attention from early June to late autumn. Fragrant inflorescences reach a diameter of 8 cm with a large pompom in the center, do not fade in the sun, gradually increasing in size. Bush height 70-90cm. Vigorous stems are well branched. Winter hardiness is high up to -34 degrees.
