Raspberry seedlings in nurseries are offered at a price of 300 to 900 rubles apiece. It will be expensive for most gardeners to immediately purchase a lot of planting material. It is enough to buy 2-3 copies for a start. Then multiply them on your site. How to properly increase the volume of plantings?
Breeding options
Planting material of fragrant raspberries is obtained in several ways:
• layering;
• root shoots;
• green cuttings;
• seeds.
Let's consider all the options in detail.
Root shoots
The easiest and less laborious breeding method. One plant gives from 4 to 6 new growths per year. At the age of 3-4 years, the division of the bush begins, leaving 2 branches on each copy. Carefully cut into pieces with a knife. The sections are sprinkled with ash. The operation is performed in early spring or closer to autumn.
Layers
In early spring, bend the branch to the ground. On the underside, the bark is injured with a file, and treated with root powder. Dig a small hole, pin the shoot with a wire. They fall asleep with earth, moisturize the soil well. Cover the top with a film or a piece of roofing tar.
The entire growing season monitors the moisture content of the earthen coma, preventing it from drying out. Good roots grow by autumn. The next spring, the shoot is cut off with a pruner, dug out, transplanted to a permanent place.
Green cuttings
At the beginning of summer, when the new growth of annual bushes is 50 cm, cuttings are started. The sticks are divided into segments of 8-11 cm, 3-4 buds each. The lower pair of leaves is removed completely, the upper ones are shortened by half. Minimizing evaporation will allow the plant to direct all its forces towards the formation of powerful roots.
The cuttings are kept in a root solution for 12 hours. Planted in a bed with loose, fertile soil. They make a mixture of: sand, peat, humus, in a ratio of 1: 2: 2 with the addition of nitroammophoska. All components are thoroughly mixed.
The branches are placed at an angle of 45 degrees. It is abundantly watered with a solution of potassium permanganate. A film shelter is organized through the arcs. Shade on top with a non-woven fabric.
The best place for a cuticle is light partial shade. Here the temperature does not rise above 25 degrees. Additional containers of water will create optimal humidity inside the shelter.
Twice a month the plants are fed with a complex fertilizer "Health for Fruit Crops" a tablespoon per bucket of liquid. After 1-1, 5 months, when the sprouts start to grow, the shelter is removed. Gradually accustoming the bushes to the dry air of the open ground.
In the spring of next year, ready-made planting material is planted in a permanent place.
Seed growing
The most time-consuming way to get good seedlings is by seed. From sowing to the first flowering, it takes from 4 to 6 years of waiting. The seed germination rate is low.
Scientific experiments have established that passing through the stomach of birds, the seeds increased their germination energy several times. If your farm has such animals, you can feed the berries to the chickens, then collect the droppings and dig them into the soil. The next year, you will receive friendly shoots.
For the rest of the gardeners, the traditional method is suitable. Freshly picked berries are soaked in water for a day. Separate the pulp from the grains through a sieve. Sow on a specially designated bed before frost to a depth of 1 cm. Rows are placed every 20 cm from each other. Fall asleep with earth, compact the grooves on top. Cover with spruce branches from mice.
Shoots appear in the spring. In the phase of 3-4 leaves, the seedlings are planted in a "school", setting a distance of 30 by 30 cm between them. The bushes are here for several years, until the time of transplantation to a permanent place.
Water every other day during dry periods, preventing the soil from drying out. The rest of the care is the same as for adult plants.
Experimenting with the methods of breeding fragrant raspberries, you will gain invaluable experience, the right amount of planting material with minimal material costs. Provide yourself and your loved ones with beautiful seedlings of an unusual culture.
