Distribution area

Fragrant raspberries in their homeland received the name fragrant raspberry, for the similarity of their leaves with maple leaves. Grows wild on rocky slopes, along rivers, roads of North America in the eastern part. It climbs to a maximum height of 1.5 km above sea level. It grows well on the edges of the forest.

It has been used as a cultivated plant since 1770. In the early 19th century, she conquered Europe. In 1902 she successfully migrated to the territory of Russia. She fell in love with our natural conditions with looser forest soils. It spread to the border of the Far North.

Biological features

Malinoclene is a perennial shrub of the rosaceous family, 1-2 meters high (up to 3m in its homeland). All parts of the plant have glandular hairs that give off a pleasant aroma. There are no thorns. Smooth stems of the second year, shiny brown, covered with a peeling crust. The root system consists of long, flat, slightly branched processes.

The leaves are three to five lobed, whole, slightly pointed at the apex of each triangular lobe. In summer they are light green, in autumn they acquire a golden hue. The width of the platinum leaf reaches 10-20 cm, depending on the growing conditions.

They have a sparsely toothed edge, long petioles.

Blooms from June to late autumn. First, the buds appear on last year's shoots, later they bloom on a new growth. Inflorescences are large, 4-6 cm in diameter with 5 petals of white, light pink, purple color. They look like miniature non-double roses. Bisexual, the smell is pleasant saturated. At the ends of the shoots, single flowers are collected in small brushes.

From August to frost, fruits of a flattened drupe, up to 2 cm in size, ripen. The taste is sour, tart, thin skin of a light red hue. The fragrant aroma of wild berries predominates. Loved by birds, animals, insects (wasps, bees).

Usage

Jams, jams are prepared from berries with the addition of a larger norm of granulated sugar or mixed with other fruits. For the winter, fruits and leaves are dried.

The bushes are decorative from early summer to late autumn.

Placing hives next to raspberry trees during long flowering allows bees to collect fragrant, healthy honey all summer long.
