Even in the Stone Age, people were able to domesticate this animal, which, so to speak, is universal. The goat is the most valuable and richest source of food: milk, meat, wool, down and even manure.
How to properly maintain and care for goats
Goats tolerate both heat and cold well, but they do not like a humid climate and drafts. In the warm season, the main thing is to have free grazing space, where the goats themselves will find a sufficient amount of grass. And in the winter, you need to make a little effort to keep these wonderful animals. Although they tolerate the cold, nevertheless, it is necessary to insulate the goat's rue, as they will feel more comfortable and comfortable at 5-10 degrees Celsius. It is worth worrying about the supply of hay, since in winter you can hardly find juicy grass for your favorite animals.
Every goat breeder who dreams of good milk goats should know that hay alone is certainly not enough to get healthy tasty milk! The diet should include grain feeds, such as: barley, corn, millet and others. It is better to crush or flatten the grain for better assimilation. Goats eat wormwood, tree leaves, thorns with great pleasure, and from juicy feed they love carrots, cabbage, beets, pumpkin, potato trimmings, apples and watermelon peels. It is necessary to water the goats with clean and not cold water. They will not drink dirty water, because by their nature they are clean and squeamish!
A little about the breeds of goats
Initially, goats are classified into 5 types of breeds: dairy, wool, meat, downy and mixed. Dairy breeds include: Saanen, Toggenburg, Gruyer, Vali, Gorky, Russian goat. For wool breeds: Soviet wool breed, Angora. Downy breeds: Orenburg and Don, meat breeds: Chance, Serana, Bengal and Boer. The mixed types include the Altai mountain goat.
• Zaanen dairy breed
This breed of goats is the most dairy. She comes from the town of Saanen (Switzerland), respectively, the name of the breed came from the place of her birth. For the first time these goats were brought to Russia approximately in 1905. With good care, a goat can produce up to 1,300 liters of milk per year. These are high indicators of the productivity of this breed for creating small and medium-sized industrial farms. Saanen goats mature quickly and can therefore be covered by proper care as early as 10-12 months. Another great advantage of this breed is the absence of an unpleasant odor from goats, excellent quality and taste of milk without bad smell.
• Angora wool breed
The Angora breed of goats specializes, you guessed it, in the woolen direction and is one of the most ancient cultivated breeds of farm animals. The homeland of this breed is Turkey. The most interesting thing is that in Turkey Angora goats are called "tiftik kechi", which means a goat with soft silky hair. The wool of angora goats is famous for its strength and elasticity, which makes it possible to make quality wool products.
• Orenburg downy breed
This breed of goats is most popular in the Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, Aktobe regions and belongs to downy breeds. Unlike many others, the down of the Orenburg goat is much softer, more elastic, thinner and has the ability to "fluff", which gives the products made of it a special beauty.
