Let's continue our story about unusual lychee tomatoes (cocoons). Let us dwell in more detail on the methods of reproduction and cultivation of this crop in amateur gardens
Lychee tomatoes are grown in two ways:
• seeds;
• rooting of stepchildren and parts of the stem.
Seed reproduction
In the southern regions, cocoons are cultivated in a seedless way - by direct sowing in early April, immediately to a permanent place in open ground. Place 2-3 seeds in the hole. In the future, excess plants are removed, leaving 1 of the strongest specimen.
In Central Russia, a prerequisite for the successful cultivation of lychee tomatoes is the seedling method. Seeds are sown in mid-February on windowsills. The containers are filled with soil consisting of 1 part of humus, 1 part of sand, 2 parts of high-moor peat.
Cut grooves with a depth of 0.5 cm. Spill with warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate. The planting material is spread evenly at a distance of 2-3 cm in a row. Sprinkle with soil, compact the soil. The row spacing is left 10 cm wide for the convenience of further processing.
After a week, the first seedlings appear. During this period, the soil is maintained in a slightly moist state, preventing the earthen coma from drying out. Excessive moisture is also dangerous for young plants. It can lead to mass death from the black leg. Therefore, try to stick to the "golden" mean.
For the first month, the cocoon is watered only with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, as a prophylaxis of bacterial diseases. The temperature is maintained at 15-20 degrees to avoid stretching the seedlings.
If necessary, the aisles are loosened to a depth of 3 cm. With thickened seedlings, the plants are thinned out in the phase of 3-4 leaves, leaving a distance of 5-6 cm between them, or dive into separate pots.
2 times they feed the bushes with complex fertilizers Kemira Lux or Zdravn for tomatoes at a consumption rate of 1 tablespoon per ten-liter bucket of water. After 50 days from the moment of germination, the seedlings are ready for transplantation to a permanent place.
Sown in late March - early April in cool conditions of unheated greenhouses and greenhouses, the plants turn out to be strong, stocky, short, hardened. In this case, the crop ripens in mid-August.
Vegetative propagation
This method is especially relevant in the southern regions and heated greenhouses, where conditions for a long period of growth and fruiting are created. Stepchildren removed from adult plants successfully root in the humid climate of greenhouses and hotbeds.
The broken off parts of the plant are placed in a solution of heteroauxin for a day. Then they are planted obliquely at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other. Shedding soil well. After 2-3 weeks, the bushes begin to grow. This is a sign of successful rooting of cuttings.
The second method is to bend individual branches to the ground. A small incision is made on the bottom side. Processed with root root. Saw with a bent piece of wire. A mound of soil is made from above. They moisturize this place well. After 2-3 weeks, the new bush is ready for separation from the mother plant. A rooted branch is cut off with a sharp knife. The young cocoon is planted in a permanent place.
Growing
Before planting, fill the soil with nitroammophos. Lychee tomatoes respond very well to the introduction of complex fertilizers with the addition of trace elements. Wood ash contains all the components necessary for nutrition. Before planting, add 1 glass of this substance to the hole. The pits shed well. Planted in 1 plant. Buried in a fertile layer, pressing the substrate to the roots.
The rate of planting in the open field of the nightshade is 3-4 plants per 1 square meter. In a row between the bushes, set a distance of 50-60 cm, leave 80-100 cm for paths. 2 lines are placed on the garden bed.
A culture is formed into 1 stem, removing all stepchildren and lower leaves as it grows. When the nightshade reaches a height of 50 cm, it is tied to the pegs with twine.
In dry periods, watering is rare, but abundant, spending up to 10 liters of water for each root. 2 times a season, Zdraven fertilizer is added to the water as a top dressing, at a rate of a matchbox for a 10-liter bucket.
Mulching the soil with straw, grass, sawdust with a layer of 5-10 cm around the bushes, cocoons, allows:
1. Reduce the number of waterings.
2. Helps to fight weeds.
3. Keeps the soil loose for a long time.
4. Protects against slugs.
5. Keeps soil temperature at the same level at night and day.
After 120 days from germination, the first berries are ready for harvest. Wear gloves made of leather or other thick material to avoid spike pricks.
The cocoon will respond to such care with a high yield of juicy, delicate fruits. By following all of the above recommendations, you can easily grow this unusual culture on your site.

We continue the conversation about the problems that arise when growing tomatoes
Problems In Growing Tomatoes (Part 1)
Problems in growing a tomato - growing a tomato can cause various problems that will have a negative impact on the development of the plants themselves and on the subsequent harvest
Tomatoes: Growing And Care
The propagation of tomatoes by seedlings has its undoubted advantages - it is both an earlier harvest and ripening of fruits in a short summer. However, if the conditions of the region allow, you can use the reckless method of growing tomatoes. Among the advantages of this method are stronger plants that are resistant to such troubles as an unexpected cold snap or long dry periods. In addition, they are not so often affected by diseases and are suitable for late harvesting operations
