We continue the conversation about the problems that arise when growing tomatoes.

Start here.

Very often, gardeners can face a rather common failure, which is that fertilization does not occur. The main reason lies in the presence of high humidity or high temperatures. The solution to this problem will be good ventilation of greenhouses, which should be carried out regularly.

Another fairly common problem can be the falling off of the ovaries. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the excessive feeding of plants with both nitrogen and manure. In addition, careful feeding with infusion of weeds is not recommended. All this can be an important reason in the event that such feeding was carried out immediately after transplanting to a permanent place. Because of this, a delay in fruiting can occur, as well as an excessive growth of the aerial part.

In tomatoes, so-called faceted or double flowers can very often form. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that the temperature regime was very low at the time when flower buds were laid. From such terry orchards, substandard and intergrown fruits subsequently grow. Seeds cannot be taken from such tomatoes, otherwise the same fruits will appear next year. Therefore, especially large buds of such flowers have to be removed even when they are at the bud stage.

Many gardeners are also faced with the fact that the ovaries grow very slowly. The reason for this phenomenon lies either in a cold snap for a long time, or in cloudy weather, or with a very sharp change in both daytime and nighttime temperatures. Such situations are, of course, stressful, in which case the plants should be fed with calcium nitrate. Such a solution is prepared as follows: three tablespoons per ten liters of water, this solution is added under the bush in half a liter.

Of course, sometimes the gardeners themselves are to blame for the fact that the plants have such stressful situations. This may be due to the fact that the greenhouses were opened late. Greenhouses should be opened at the latest at eight in the morning, because it is at this time that the temperature inside and outside the greenhouse will not differ by so many degrees, but only by two to three degrees. In the event that you open the greenhouse even at ten in the morning, then outside the temperatures are not yet high, but inside the greenhouse it is already very warm. After the greenhouse has been opened, the temperature levels off, which happens very quickly. A rapid change in temperature has a very negative effect on plants, they may even stop the process of photosynthesis. In this case, the development of the plant will be suspended for at least two hours, such a delay occurs in the morning hours, because they are the most valuable for the plant.

When black spots appear on the lower, and then on all other leaves, which will increase over time, and yellow spots will form around them, this indicates a rather serious disease of the plant. Such a disease is called phytophthora, in essence it is a fungus that lives in the soil when there is no required amount of copper in the soil. Preventive measures should also be taken so that such a disease does not arise in the future. You can water the soil with copper oxychloride or copper sulfate even before planting. In addition, a drug called Profit is quite effective: a tablespoon of the drug is taken for one liter of water and then the soil is watered with this mixture, it is also permissible to take a teaspoon of the drug for ten liters of water - you can spray the leaves with this mixture.

Spraying the tomato with the infusion of the tinder fungus will also be a good prophylactic agent. For such a procedure, you will need to grind one hundred grams of the mushroom and pour boiling water, after which the mixture is covered with a lid and must cool. Then this mixture is filtered, and then the leaves of the plants are sprayed with this mixture. After ten days, this spraying must be repeated again. The optimal time for such preventive measures will be the end of June and the beginning of July.
