Almost every gardener is engaged in growing tomatoes. But not everyone knows how to properly feed this vegetable plant. Let's talk about the full fertilization scheme, the regularity of watering, and the advantages of foliar feeding. Consider the signs of nutrient deficiencies
How to feed tomato bushes?
A balanced diet stimulates not only growth, but also provides abundant fruiting, affects the taste of the fruit. Tomatoes, like the entire Solanaceae group, absorb fertilizers well with the aerial part and roots. It is important to skillfully feed, meet deadlines and find a middle ground so as not to deprive and avoid oversaturation.
Mineral substances give the full development and growth of tomatoes, so that the basis of the introduction will be phosphorus, nitrogenous compounds and potassium. What do they give? Phosphorus is the strengthening of the root system, growth and ovaries. The lack of this element interferes with the absorption of nitrogenous components and trace elements. As a result, leaves curl up, ripening slows down, and a purple spot appears on the tops.
Potassium is a favorite element of tomatoes, it is required in large quantities. It is necessary for the formation of the main stem, stimulates the processing of carbon dioxide. If there is not enough potassium, ammonia nitrogen accumulates in the leaves, this leads to wilting and death.
Feeding scheme. Composition of dressings
If initially the necessary fertilizers, including ash, were laid in the soil, then feeding at the first stage is not required.
First feeding
Held three weeks later. Give a liter of liquid fertilizer under the bush. It is prepared as follows: for 10 liters, two matchboxes of urea or one sodium nitrate are taken; two box of superphosphate or one phosphate rock; incomplete - potassium chloride or 1 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate.
Second feeding
During the period of mass flowering, it is necessary to stimulate the formation of ovaries. Pour potassium sulfate (1 tablespoon) + 0.5 liters of diluted chicken manure + 0.5 liters of mullein infusion into a bucket (10 l). Spilling, as in the first version - a liter per piece.
If you do not have organic matter, then you can replace it with a solution prepared from nitrophoska (1 tbsp. L. In a bucket). During this period - at the flowering stage, to prevent apical rot, spray with a solution of calcium nitrate (1 tablespoon + 10 liters of water). About a liter per plant.
Third feeding
With the beginning of mass fruiting, the last feeding takes place. It stimulates ripening and improves the quality of the flavor. The calculation is carried out for 10 liters. Superphosphate needs 2 tbsp. l. and liquid potassium humate (1 tbsp. l.).
Foliar dressing of tomatoes
It is known that two main facts affect the quality of fruits and the amount of picking tomatoes: timely watering and nutrition. Only this must be done skillfully, that is, root feeding should take place immediately after watering, on wet soil.
It is important to give foliar nutrition to activate the growth and full development of tomatoes. Many gardeners miss this moment, but in vain. Spraying the leaves with a nutrient mixture gives strength, contributes to higher yields. Interestingly, foliage and stems have the ability to control the lack of useful elements and absorb only the missing components from the solution used. Therefore, root feeding should be combined with foliar feeding.
Spraying works efficiently and gives quick results. For example, the root method of application is noticeable only after a week or two, and spraying - after a few hours. Experts recommend processing the aboveground part at the time of flowering. An extract from the ash is made: 2 glasses should be poured with hot water (2 liters) and left for a couple of days. Then strain, bring the volume to 10 l + 1 tbsp. l. boric acid and spray.
Signs and Troubleshooting of Nutritional Problems
Tomatoes, unlike other vegetables, are able to signal their problems. If an element is missing, they demonstrate it with their appearance.
• Bushes that are lagging behind in growth, with pale leaves or with a yellowish tinge are a sign of a lack of nitrogen. Remedy: spray with urea solution.
• Rolling of leaves, development of apical rot - potassium deficiency. Apply a potassium salt solution.
• Coloring of veins on leaves, stem, leaf plate in a violet tone - there is not enough phosphorus. Give a weak superphosphate solution.
