Growing a delightful indoor rose is the dream of many novice florists. Indeed, in comparison with such rather common plants in indoor floriculture as tradescantia, fuchsia or geranium, a delicate rose is almost an exotic guest in our home flower beds. How to grow this beautiful, but very capricious flower?
Reproduction of roses in spring
Reproduction of roses in indoor conditions is carried out by cuttings. The best period for this is from May to June, when the roses have already faded. For this purpose, choose green cuttings on young shoots just beginning to woody. Cured biennial specimens are no longer suitable for this.
The cut shoots are cut into cuttings in such a way that two or three buds are preserved on each. The lower cut is performed closer to the kidney, and if there is such an opportunity on the selected shoot, they make it with a heel - such specimens take root better, since, compared to others, they form callus faster and form roots. The upper cut should be slightly higher than the upper kidney.
The rooting container is filled with peat-peat soil, and river sand is placed on top with a layer about 2 cm thick. The cuttings dug into the substrate are hidden under a glass glass or jar. In the early days, they need to be shaded from direct sunlight and often sprayed with water. No longer than 3 weeks later, the planting material is rooted. From this point on, the cuttings can already be watered.
Instances with a mature root system are moved into individual small pots. When the roots are completely entwined with an earthen ball, they will be relocated in a larger container. Do not rush to rejoice at the first buds and expect soon flowering - all flower buds must first be removed from young bushes so that they do not weaken the still unformed plant.
Reproduction of roses in summer
Reproduction at a later date - from July to August - is a more laborious process. Prepared cuttings are planted in containers with a substrate and kept in these boxes until the callus is formed. It is important not to miss this deadline:
• for polyanthus and climbing varieties, it is about 15 days;
• repair and hybrid tea roses will take about a month.
The main thing in this breeding method is to have time to remove the cuttings from the ground before the roots begin to form. The fact is that until spring comes, the cuttings will be stored in the refrigerator, and if they are placed in the cold, even with the rudiments of roots, they will inevitably die.
After removing from the substrate, bundles are made from the cuttings, carefully tying them so as not to damage the leaves. These bundles are packed in polyethylene and placed in glass jars with wet sand. In this form, they are stored in the refrigerator. In the spring, overwintered planting material is kept in the light for up to 5 days at a temperature of + 3 … + 6 ° C, and only then is it removed from polyethylene to be planted in containers.
Optimal conditions for rooting are air temperature around + 18 … + 20 ° С. As a rule, by April-May, the rooted planting material is already ready to be moved from a common container to individual pots with a diameter of no more than 10 cm. The substrate for young plants is made up of:
• turf land - 2 parts;
• peat - 1 part.
Fertilizers such as superphosphate (5 g), potassium salt (3 g), fluff lime (3 g) are added to 1000 g of the soil mixture. In the first days after transplanting, it is recommended to spray the cuttings with settled water at room temperature 2-3 times a day.
At home, the rose grows like an evergreen shrub, delighting the owners with a wonderful flowering and delicate aroma. From autumn to spring, you can keep the bushes in the rooms, and on warm days, take the pots out into the garden and on the balcony.
