How to build a wooden garden bridge?
In the modern world, wooden bridges are most often found in summer cottages. First of all, this is due to the fact that wood is a material that harmoniously fits into the landscape of any territory with any style. Secondly, wood is a natural and environmentally friendly material. In addition, it is lightweight and low cost.
The scheme for the construction of a small garden bridge made of wood is quite simple. First, you need to prepare the main supporting element. For these purposes, the banks are strengthened, for which cobblestones or high-quality compacted rubble are used. Using concrete is also a good option. On prepared slopes, it is further required to install two support elements in the form of wooden bars. The distance that remains between them will also be the width of the future bridge. In the zones of joining the bars and the soil, waterproofing properties should be created by installing roofing material there. Alternatively, you can process the material with bitumen.
As an undercut, metal pegs must be hammered into the wooden bars. Further, from the top of the supports, you need to attach and fix the span bars. This can be done using metal staples. The length of the spans is the length of the structure. This is followed by the construction of the flooring. For this purpose, boards are nailed across to the spans. They need to be attached using pressure bars. The boards should be at least three centimeters thick. When installing the boards, leave a small space for water to drain through it.
The last step is the construction of the railings, which are located along the long sides of the bridge and are in an upright position. The bars should be fixed from a size of forty centimeters. The same bars are attached from above, but here they acquire a horizontal position. You need to connect and fix the parts with ordinary self-tapping screws. To give such a bridge durability, treatment with antiseptics and varnishes should be carried out. This will help create additional protection against harmful insects and waterlogging.
