Working with decorative lighting for summer cottages, gardens, courtyards is an important part of high-quality landscape design. Currently, there are two types of lighting: functional and decorative

Functional lighting is necessary for practical purposes: to create comfortable conditions for moving around the suburban area at night. That is, this lighting should be as convenient as possible, and not as beautiful as possible. Most often, this type of lighting is used to illuminate access roads, paths, paths on the site, porch, gazebos, and so on.

Decorative lighting is needed in order to create various light compositions, focus on the most successful areas of your garden and hide flaws from prying eyes. That is, the main function of decorative lighting is aesthetic.

The best option for any suburban area or garden is the moderate use of both types of lighting: both functional and decorative.

For decorative lighting, you need lamps. But now on the market there are just a lot of them in different shapes, colors, sizes. How not to get lost in this diversity? Let's take a look at what types of fixtures exist.

Recessed luminaires

These lamps, as their name implies, can be easily and quickly built into the floor, soil, walls, steps. Most often, such flashlights are used to indicate the direction of movement, so they usually shine dimly. By the way, if you need to lightly illuminate the track, then it is best to use LED lights.

Decorative luminaires embedded in the ground do not carry any functional load, they have a purely aesthetic function. Most often, such lamps are made in various interesting shapes: flowers, leaves, butterflies.

Floodlights

This type of lamp can be used to illuminate various decorative garden compositions, as well as to illuminate beautiful flower beds, shrubs and trees. This type of lantern is considered to be the simplest in design. Different spotlights differ in the following characteristics: type of installation, size, color of illumination, angle of light distribution, illumination power. This type of lighting allows you not to limit your imagination and create not just an illuminated area, but a whole light composition using various light filters.

Lanterns - poles

In this group, two types of lanterns are distinguished: directional and diffused lanterns.

The first type is based on the fact that the light from the lantern, with the help of reflectors, is directed to a certain place. They are ideal for illuminating roads, paths and any kind of garden compositions, as well as recreation areas. These lamps are versatile, they are not only functional, but also used as part of a garden composition due to their often interesting and unusual shapes.

The second type is lanterns that scatter light around them. Thus, a small part of the illumination falls into the place we need, but, in addition, everything that is around the lantern gets into the illumination zone: grass, trees, a gate, a fence, a building facade. From a distance, this light source looks like a large bright spot surrounded by absolute darkness. These light sources perform a purely decorative function, as they often come in very bizarre shapes.

Of course, in the event that you have a very small area, then you can try to use such lights directly to illuminate it, but the benefits of this type of lighting are very doubtful. It is better in this case to use built-in lamps, they, at least, will not allow you to get lost, as well as stumble and fall when moving around the territory of the summer cottage.
