The art of joining pieces of fabric is mentioned in historical documents from the 11th century. In Russia, a patchwork quilt was an integral part of the decoration of a peasant hut, where peace and comfort reigned. It was an indicator of the hostess's skill, a traditional attribute of a bride's dowry, a small blanket was prepared for a newborn. This thing was pleasing to the eye and warmed in severe frosts
Today the patchwork technique ("patchwork", "quilt" style) is at the peak of its popularity. Things made from a flap are in demand and popular. Most often they are found in the form of design solutions for the kitchen, bedroom (blankets, pillowcases, bedspreads, blankets). A patchwork quilt is a quilted thing with a padding of batting, down, cotton wool or padding polyester. The front side is made of strips of multi-colored variegated fabric, the back is usually made in one color. If we talk about a summer residence, then such a fashionable thing will always decorate your home and create comfort on cold days. On long winter evenings, you can get busy and create a useful man-made masterpiece. So, we sew a patchwork quilt.
Material preparation
For work, prepare scraps of fabric, insulation (sheet synthetic winterizer, batting), natural fabric for the seamy side (coarse calico, thick chintz, linen). Tools: a knife with a retractable blade, tailor's pins, a ruler, scissors, thread, it is advisable to have a sewing machine. It is best to choose a pattern from squares, calculating the required amount is simple: a double product 200x220 cm, with 10x10 cm flaps, it will require 22 squares in length, 20 pieces will go for a width. In total, you will need 440 parts. When calculating, allowances for seams should be taken into account - 0.5 cm on each side of the square.
Front side
The work starts from the front. From the finished squares, you need to make a preliminary calculation. This method makes it possible to make a harmonious distribution of details or create a pattern. Tip: Large flaps require fewer stitches and therefore take less time. Sew the squares in pairs, creating one large square from four parts. Further, these large blocks are cut in rows. The finished strips are gathered together, the seams are ironed in one direction.
Lining and gathering
The finished structure unfolds face down. Insulation is laid out on the back, its width should be 3 cm more than the patchwork fabric on each side. After that, the top is covered with a second cloth. The seamy sides are adjacent to the insulation.
Next, the mock-up is neatly cleaved with tailor's pins and sewn with a basting seam. It is better to start sewing from the middle, keeping straight directions. For convenience, you need to use chalk and a ruler. The seams, like rays, should diverge from the center. At the edges between them, a step of 20 cm is maintained. The final quilting is performed on a sewing machine, also from the middle to the edges. If there is no corresponding presser foot on the machine, you need to use a zigzag seam. This will eliminate the possibility of shrinkage of the material.
Edging
The final stage begins with trimming the excess insulation, fitting and leveling. Side facing is usually made from a strip 3-4 cm wide, without taking into account the allowance (0.6 cm on each side). Finished tapes need to be spread out around the perimeter, then sewn one by one to obtain the full length, the folds must be ironed out. The strip should be placed right side out, aligning the edges, and secure with pins.
Sewing always starts with patchwork. After a complete bypass of the facial contour, the final closure begins. The chipped edges pass the needle forward seam, iron it, creating a piping. The top seam of the product is drained off on the machine. We close the bottom side of the facing by hand using a blind seam. The blanket is now ready.
How to make a screed
If you want to give additional volume and softness to the product, you can make the tie with mercerized thread. For this, stitches are made with a span of 5 cm from the center to the edge of each large square. The ends of the thread are pulled together and tied. This should be done with all the elements. The puncture is made through all layers.
As a result of all your efforts, you will receive a patchwork quilt of unique color and color schemes, which will become an exclusive decoration for your home.

However, chickens require much more attention in winter than in summer
