Features of rooting rose cuttings in autumn

In late autumn, the flower garden is being prepared for next winter. It is also important to pay attention to roses during this period. Someone is limited to bending down the shoots, and then covering their rose garden. Others prefer to cut and hud up the shortened bushes high. Cut buds can still decorate vases. They can also be used as cuttings for flower propagation. However, not all rooting ends with success. Let's figure out why this happens and how to do it correctly

What types of roses are rooted in the fall

First of all, an amateur florist should know which varieties of roses are more suitable for rooting roses in the autumn. These include:

• ground cover roses;

• climbing and semi-climbing varieties;

• miniature.

Hybrid tea perennials take root poorly in the fall, with them this procedure is recommended to be carried out in the summer.

How to root cuttings?

For rooting, it is better to take a cutting "with a heel" - a part of the old wood of the shoot. Cuttings can be rooted both directly in the ground and in liquid. Each of these methods has both advantages and disadvantages.

Rooting takes place for a long period. To prevent the stalk from rotting in the water during this time, a biofungicide should be added to the water. It will protect the environment from the development of fungal infections and other parasitic bacteria. In this form, the stalk will start up well-branched roots. The disadvantage of this method before rooting immediately in the soil is that after the liquid, the plant will have to get used to the new environment again. This can slow down further development.

The size of the pot also matters a lot. As a rule, the most suitable are containers with a diameter of about 7-8 cm. Because it is important that, as the root system develops, it completely masters the earthen lump. Well, the soil mixture itself should be loose enough.

Potting: Angled or Straight?

Many seasoned growers recommend planting the cuttings in a pot for rooting at an angle. There is a reason for this. But such a design will be difficult to hide under a jar or cut-off plastic bottle. If you are also an adherent of planting a cutting under a slope, an ordinary plastic bag will help to solve the problem of shelter, in which a pot is placed and tied with a knot on top.

However, even when planting directly, the cuttings root quite successfully. A separate difficulty in this case can be the discrepancy between the size of the diameter of the pot and the cut of the bottle, which is going to cover the rose. To adjust the cap to the desired size, vertical cuts are made along the edge of the cut a few centimeters long. The resulting "skirt" you can control the width of the bottle so that it fits into the pot.

Technology for planting a cuttings in a pot and caring for a rose

A small layer of earth must first be poured onto the bottom of the pot. Then put the handle on it, holding it with your hand, or put it at an angle. After that, they begin to fill the container with soil. After planting, it is necessary to moisten the soil. For this, it is also recommended to use not pure water, but a liquid with biofungicide. Such watering will compact the soil around the cutting, and if it is previously rooted in water, then around the delicate roots, and will also provide prevention.

Then you need to carefully examine the stalk again to see if extra buds have awakened on it. This can become an obstacle to the development of the root system, when the plant has to distribute forces to both the underground and aboveground parts. All that is superfluous now needs to be cut off.

After the procedure for disembarking and watering, the pot is hidden in a bag or under a bottle. Now the main task of the grower is to maintain an optimal level of water moisture. The main thing is not to fill the flower. And the shelter helps to maintain the humidity level.
