A separate place for rooting cuttings helps to achieve positive results in this difficult business for many gardeners. The survival rate of some species under normal conditions is no more than 30-40%. How can these indicators be increased? Let's take a look at the main ingredients for success
Conditions for good survival
When planning, consider the following factors:
• the construction of the cuticle;
• location;
• optimum temperature, humidity;
• soil composition;
• rooting time;
• preparation of planting material;
• landing;
• care;
• preparation for wintering.
Each point plays an important role in the successful outcome of a complex process.
Design
Film tunnels and mini-greenhouses are used for cuttings. The effectiveness in both cases is the same. The costs of large structures will pay off in full over time.
At the base of the film tunnels lies a wooden or slate box, 10-15 cm high, 90 cm wide, arbitrary length. With this size, it is convenient to work the soil under the plants. Low iron arcs are placed along the perimeter, no more than 0.6-0.8 m in the center. A plastic film is stretched over it.
For convenience, one long end is permanently fixed on the box, the other is removable. A wooden stick is nailed to it. The ends are pressed with bricks.
Mini-greenhouses are built on the principle of large structures made of glass or cellular polycarbonate. In the middle there is a path, on both sides there are beds. Here plants are grown in two ways: directly in the ground, on shelves in separate cups or boxes.
For airing, lowering the temperature, vents are provided. The best option is an automatic sash opening system when the temperature rises above 25 degrees.
A budget option is to adapt wooden frames. Now old samples of windows in big cities are being replaced with plastic ones. There are quite strong specimens in the trash cans.
We dig a small trench. We fill it with sand. Lay out one layer of brick on top. We cover with roofing material. Then another layer of stone. Concrete a corner in the corners of the structure. If the cuticle is long enough, then there should be several such corners around the entire perimeter. We connect along the top with a strip of iron. We strengthen the channel in the center of the bed in the upper part. The hinges for the opening roof are attached to it.
We fasten the doors to the iron, placing them on the edge, with the wide side along the foundation. At the same time, the height of the greenhouse is approximately 0.5 m, the width is no more than 0.9-1 m (like a regular bed). So that it is convenient to reach the middle with your hand for soil cultivation.
Craftsmen make cuttings from sheets of loose foam on the principle of a large thermos. The walls are made of 5 cm thick material, the roof is 3 cm. Such a structure perfectly stabilizes the temperature at an optimal level. Retains heat, does not let the cold through. There is enough lighting without additional lighting.
Loose structure with abundant precipitation allows moisture to pass inside. The bottom of the thermos is lined with sawdust. Cups with cuttings are installed in them. On dry days, the contents are sprayed from a spray bottle, creating a fine spray. Sawdust around individual pots is well moistened.
Location
Most experts recommend installing cuttings in openwork penumbra. Here plants suffer less from overheating at midday, sunny days. The temperature inside the buildings is more stable. Honeysuckle, conifers - feel better in a cool place.
In open areas, artificial shading is created from non-woven material, tulle fabrics, gauze, mesh. Glass constructions are whitewashed with lime.
Physical indicators, soil composition, rooting time, harvesting of cuttings will be considered in the next article.
