Summer cottage work is a pleasant and at the same time very troublesome occupation. Nevertheless, our distant ancestors managed to safely cope with a fairly large amount of work and get excellent yields. How did they do it? Let's try to figure it out. Of course, in our modern age, some advice does not look very believable and even wild, but why not try to use them if they really work? And the cherished June 18 is also just around the corner
Getting rid of weeds
One old book contains very interesting advice that you really should try to use - what if you really get lucky and it works? The author of the old publication claims that if all weeds are removed from the site on June 18, they will no longer grow. The main thing is to have time to do it before 13:00! For some reason, it is generally accepted that June 18 is a special day for all gardeners. However, you can conduct a small experiment: on one part of the site, eliminate weeds before 13:00 on June 18, and on the other part of the garden do it on June 17 or 19, and see what the results will be. Even just for the sake of curiosity!
Planting carrots
Many gardeners plant carrots by mixing their seeds with a little sand. However, there is another interesting, and most importantly, no less effective way! It turns out that you can plant carrots in ordinary jelly! Having cooked thin jelly from starch, cool it, then stir a teaspoon of carrot seeds in each glass of the cooled drink, and then pour the finished mixture into a large kettle. Further, small grooves are made in the ground and, having thoroughly spilled them with warm water, they send jelly there along with the seeds. In this case, the seeds will not stick together, which means that it will simply remain to cover them with earth. The seeds planted in this way sprout magnificently, the main thing is not to forget to thin out the seedlings later. And that's all, you can safely wait for wonderful harvests!
We plant onions with seeds
Planting onions with seeds is not at all so easy than with bulbs, because the seeds of this culture are very, very small. To make it easier for yourself an already difficult task, you can use the old and fairly simple old-fashioned way: by taking a spoonful of seeds in your mouth and holding them there for a few seconds, immediately spray the seeds on the beds - before, when modern irons seemed like something fantastic, housewives sprayed water in about the same way during ironing. The seeds will certainly fall on the beds separately, and all that remains to be done in this case is just lightly press them down with your palm and sprinkle them with earth.
And to protect the onion from pests and increase its yield, you should water it with salt water, and this should be done not every day, but every ten days. At the same time, one hundred grams of salt is consumed per bucket of water. In addition, this method avoids too many small bulbs, that is, all bulbs after such irrigation will be either large or medium in size!
The secret to getting a good harvest of cucumbers
Another old advice says that in order for cucumbers to germinate better and faster, their seeds must be held on the chest for a while before planting. And, as some summer residents assure, this method really works, although no scientific justification for such a technique has been found to this day! Mysticism, and more!
On the eve of planting seeds, in the evening, they take a cotton cloth and, moistening it in warm water and squeezing it thoroughly, put cucumber seeds on it. Then the cloth is carefully wrapped and wrapped in plastic, placed on the chest overnight.
And what unusual garden tricks do you know, and did you manage to try anything in practice?
