Miniature varieties are derived from the Chinese variety Minima rose. In the first half of the 19th century, they first came to Europe. At first glance, the novelties fascinated gardeners with their elegance, beauty, delicate, unique aroma of inflorescences. Let's take a closer look at the beautiful "queen"

Biological features

Outwardly, the undersized specimens resemble miniature copies of polyanthus roses. The average height of spherical, neat bushes ranges from 20-40cm. A composite leaf consists of 5-7 small plates, oval in shape with sharp tips, a hard, shiny coating.

Inflorescences of most varieties are fragrant, 2, 5-4 cm in diameter, located at the ends of the shoots singly or collected in panicles, scutes. The colors are bright of various gamut, terry and simple shapes.

Among the miniatures, a moss group, sepals, the inflorescences of which are completely covered with glandular villi, emitting a pleasant aroma, are distinguished.

Climbing varieties are sometimes found, giving long shoots, densely covered with bright buds.

The long flowering period effectively distinguishes them from their fellows. Indoor specimens give a new wave of buds every 2 months.

Fragile appearance, small size create a deceptive impression of defenselessness of miniature roses. They are distinguished by their unpretentiousness, excellent endurance. They grow in any conditions, they are not afraid of frost, they show an enviable resistance to fungal diseases. At any time of the year they have a neat appearance, the dried inflorescences are shed by themselves.

The weak point in this group of roses is the superficial root system, which requires frequent watering in arid conditions of the street or room.

Modern varieties

Most of the hybrids are foreign (Dutch, English) selection:

1. Baby Masquerade. Reaches 40cm, leaves change color from reddish spring to summer dark green. Inflorescences up to 4cm in diameter, weakly fragrant, terry. The chameleon variety during the season, the color of the petals from yellowish-golden turns to pink, then acquires a reddish sheen. 10 buds are formed on each branch. Unpretentious to living conditions.

2. Angela Rippon. The height of the bush is 30cm, the inflorescences are terry, fragrant, carmine pink.

3. Easter Morning. Creamy white petals are collected in double large roses, form a brush of 5-10 buds. The variety shows increased resistance to diseases, does not lose its decorative effect during rains.

4. Cinderella. Height 25cm. Diameter of double, weakly fragrant inflorescences 2-2.5 cm. The petals are colored silvery white with a pink center.

5. Fire Princess. The bush reaches a maximum height of 45cm. The erect stems are adorned with orange-red buds, shimmering gold in the sun. The smell is weak.

6. Darling Flame. Neat roses 40cm tall. Numerous terry inflorescences orange-red inside with a golden border look spectacular. The variety is especially popular with gardeners.

7. Pour Toi. Height no more than 20cm. Numerous shiny leaves completely cover the bush. Semi-double miniature buds. The creamy yellow center fades into a white edging. The smell is weak.

8. Starina. It grows up to 25cm, erect stems end in clusters of bright red, double, fragrant buds. A variety of universal use. Suitable for soil and premises.

9. Sunmade. Shoots reach 30-40cm, inflorescences 3-4cm in diameter. The petals are golden yellow with a slight orange tint. The smell is weak.

10. Scarlet Gem. Bushes grow to a maximum of 25cm. The buds are bright red, double.

Selection does not stand still. Every year the list is replenished with new specimens that surpass the existing varieties in beauty, disease resistance, compactness of the aboveground part, and size of buds. Each option is good in its own way. The choice is yours!
