Any summer resident wants to see an abundance of crops on his site. After all, so much time and effort has been spent for this. But sometimes in this regard, disappointments can lie in wait: vegetables and fruits begin to hurt or insidious pests appear. How to be? Of course, there are various chemicals for these purposes, but who wants to use substances that are harmful to health on their site?
It turns out there is another way out. To combat diseases and pests, you can use various plants - insecticides. The effectiveness of their use has been tested in practice, and for humans they are much safer than chemicals. In addition, natural insecticides do not pose a threat to the life of the plants themselves. Despite all this, you need to work with them extremely carefully, because many of these plants have toxic properties.
Consider specific cases of using insecticide plants
Marigolds are widely used for pest control in the country. If you plant them between other flowers, you can get rid of pests for a long time - nematodes. Also, a special infusion is prepared from these plants, which helps fight rot and aphids. For this, the plants are harvested during the flowering period and then dried. Pour half a bucket of dried plants with water and leave for two to three days. The infusion is filtered and 40 grams of soap is added to it. They can spray the affected plants, as well as disinfect the bulbs before planting.
To get rid of aphids, caterpillars of butterflies and ticks at their summer cottage, you can use an infusion of calendula. The plant is harvested during the flowering period, and the infusion is prepared similarly to the previous recipe with the addition of soap. In addition, calendula is very effective in mixed planting, so this can be taken into account as a preventive measure.
Onions have proven themselves to be effective against scoop caterpillars, bedbugs, aphids and earwigs. You can use the onion itself or its husk. In the first case, take half the onion, chop it and pour in a liter of boiling water. The tool is insisted in a dark place for four days. Then the infusion is filtered and sprayed with diseased plants. To prepare an infusion from onion husks, the proportion should be taken into account: 6 grams of dry product per liter of water.
A more laborious, but very effective remedy is a preparation made from the peel of citrus plants. In this case, you can use the peel of orange, grapefruit and tangerine, which is crushed in a meat grinder and poured with warm water at the rate of 3 liters per 1 kilogram. The resulting mixture is poured into a vessel and placed in a dark, warm place for 5 days. Then it is filtered and bottled. Store this product in a cool, dark place. To treat damaged plants, dissolve 10 grams of soap in a bucket of water and add 25 grams of citrus tincture. This procedure is carried out in several stages with a break of 10 days.
In addition, nightshade, dope, chilli pepper, tobacco, tomato tops and others have insecticidal properties.
Recipes used by experienced summer residents deserve special attention:
- infusion of wood ash;
- fumigation with tobacco;
- disinfection of seeds with aloe juice;
- dry mustard powder for fighting slugs and snails.
However, every summer resident needs to know that these funds have a low degree of effectiveness. Therefore, they can only be used in the case of an average degree of infection. If there is a risk of losing a large part of the crop, it is better to use chemical insecticides.
