When planting vines or climbing roses, there is a need for supporting structures for the plant. Previously, wooden supports were used for these purposes, which served 2-3 seasons. In the age of technological progress, new durable materials have appeared. What types of support are currently in use?

Types of structures

To support curly specimens, the following are used:

• arches - a structure rounded in the upper part, wide or narrow, most often located above the garden path.

• pergolas - a canopy made of a lattice base.

• trellises - a lattice or ladder vertical base in the form of a wall, used for self-clinging plants.

• original designs.

The gardener's fantasy has no boundaries. Metal forging craftsmen come up with complex elements that resemble huge flower buds. Admire this bell-like masterpiece.

A simpler option: an iron pillar with a "wheel" attached to the top. Plants are kept upright by wire or twine stretched from the ground to the edge of the circle. Growing up, they hide the central support with their shoots.

Basic materials

For garden vertical structures, the following materials are used:

1. Wood. It is the simplest and most affordable. Modern impregnations, paints, help to keep wood from decay for many years. It is easy to assemble, without the use of special tools, does not require professional skills.

2. Iron. In recent years, iron structures have been gaining popularity. They are durable, the bases of the supports can be concreted, which gives additional strength. Special 3 in 1 paints keep the metal from corrosion. The only drawback is that it is necessary to attract specialists to make the arch.

3. Aluminum. Profiles from aluminum and alloys with it appear on the building materials market. Such structures have low weight, are easily cut with a grinder, do not require a protective paint against corrosion. If desired, they can be freely fixed with concrete.

4. Innovative developments. Instead of steel reinforcement, a fiberglass analogue with a good adhesive impregnation is currently used. It does not require corrosion protection, bends easily, keeps its shape. It is cut with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal, connected without welding. The different bar thickness allows the creation of strong supports. The plastic nets stretched over the posts perfectly support the weight of the plants.

If you wish, you can combine several materials in one design, which will allow you to get an original design inherent only in your garden.

Creating arches

Using the example of using fiberglass fittings, we will assemble an arch over the garden path.

For the base, we take a "wire" 12 mm thick. We measure 2 segments of 7 meters each (the length depends on the height and width of the path, the height of the garden owners). It is necessary that at the top point the distance from the path to the arch should be at least 2.5 meters. A person should freely pass under it without touching his head.

Cross sections of arbitrary length from 40 cm and more, diameter 8 or 10 mm. The quantity is calculated by design. Convenient placement step after 20-25 cm. In our case, there were 19 of them.

Wire or plastic cable tie are suitable as fasteners. The latter option is easily fastened, firmly holds the parts together.

On both sides of the path, we move 30-40 cm from the edge. We stick the ends of large arcs into the ground to a depth of 40-50 cm. Two strips parallel to each other. The distance between them is equal to the length of the short sticks minus 10 cm.

We mark the attachment points of the transverse strips. We expose on each side 3-5 cm outside the vertical "wire". We fix it with a clamp. We reinforce the lower part of the arch with additional vertical supports 1-1.5 m long with a diameter of 12 mm. We stick them into the ground at a distance of 30-40 cm from the main guides. We fasten in several places with clamps.

From the outside, we plant 1 bush of climbing plants. Over time, your arch will turn into a beautiful design element with many bright inflorescences.
