Fragrant Pelargonium wins hearts not with lush flowering, which is characteristic of other species of the Pelargonium genus, but with beautiful decorative leaves exuding various aromas. But without Pelargonium large-flowered, characterized by abundant and long flowering, it is difficult to imagine Europe, where it can be seen everywhere: in flower beds, on window cornices of multi-storey buildings, in pots hanging from street lamps
Pelargonium fragrant
As already mentioned, fragrant pelargonium does not amaze the imagination with its nondescript and small flowers. But they cannot do without it:
• aromatherapy - a method of treatment based on stimulating the sense of smell;
• perfumery industry;
• production of cosmetics;
• parks and gardens.
Its decoration is decorative lush greenery. Lobed, pinnate leaves of pelargonium will fill the garden with the scent of lemon or apple, mint or rose, you just have to choose the appropriate type of plant. In addition, they are distinguished by increased resistance to drought and are very unpretentious to soils.
Varieties of Pelargonium fragrant
•
Pelargonium capitate (Pelargonium capitatum) - an unpretentious plant will successfully replace capricious roses, because its leaves and flowers emit the scent of roses.
•
Pelargonium curly (Pelargonium crispum) - this plant will simultaneously replace rose bushes, because its flowers emit a scent of roses, and a tree with lemons, because its leaves exude a lemon scent.
•
Pelargonium fragrant (Pelargonium odoratissimum) - if you are too lazy to take care of apple trees, but their aroma is pleasant, plant the most fragrant Pelargonium in the garden.
•
Pelargonium felt (Pelargonium tomentosum) - This plant will replace the cultivation of mint, exuding a mint scent with its leaves.
Pelargonium grandiflorum
Having started its life in sultry Africa, pelargonium calmly survives on poor rocky soils, and it grows well in flowerpots or flower pots and containers, decorating cities and gardens from the first days of spring until the onset of frost, since negative temperatures were not created for this plant. In indoor conditions, there are no time restrictions for its flowering.
Today, many decorative hybrids have been bred from three main types of pelargonium: large-flowered, thyroid and zonal, which also find their niche in the production of perfumery and cosmetic products.
Growing
Both flower pots and free open spaces are suitable for pelargoniums, where they can overwinter if the winter promises to be mild, and the thermometer does not drop below zero. In cold winters, pelargonium is moved indoors in late autumn.
African beauties love sunny places, and direct sunlight, from which many plants are hiding, are not afraid of them.
Unpretentiousness to soils does not cancel feeding and regular watering, except for the winter period. The soil must be well-drained.
Reproduction
Fragrant geraniums are easily propagated by apical cuttings, cut from July to September. For indoor pelargoniums, propagation by cuttings is carried out in March.
Large-flowered pelargonium can be propagated by cuttings at the same time as fragrant, or by sowing seeds in a container with light and moist soil.
Diseases and pests
At high humidity or stagnant water in the soil, fungi are rapidly activated, causing root rot.
They like to attack pelargonium with aphids, ticks and whiteflies.
Pest control methods are traditional.
