Forcing pots are filled with wet sawdust. You can use soil with a loose structure, a mixture of sawdust with peat or peat with sand. Prepared sprouts are immersed in a substrate and covered with moss. The pots with sprouts are kept in a warm room, where the thermometer does not drop below + 30 ° C. Their contents will need to be sprayed with warm water every day. In addition, high humidity must be maintained in the room itself. To create a favorable microclimate, the pots are placed in a basin with wet rags, wet moss is placed next to it.
With this care, after 10-12 days, you will notice a flower arrow. This will serve as a signal to ensure that the plant pots are positioned in a well-lit area. In this case, the moss is removed from the containers, and the temperature regime is changed, lowering it to + 15 ° C. To calculate the flowering time and planting time for distillation, you need to take into account that:
• with early forcing in the winter months, lilies of the valley will be able to bloom only after a month;
• for late forcing (spring) - much sooner, after about two weeks.
If your lilies of the valley have bloomed ahead of time, there is one trick that will help prolong flowering so that delicate spring buds will brighten your holiday. To do this, you need to lower the temperature at which the flowers are kept to + 10 … + 12 ° С.
Forcing lilies of the valley that will decorate the New Year's table
To surprise your guests with blooming lilies of the valley for the New Year, plant sprouts are put on forcing no later than December 5th. The roots of the lilies of the valley are partially cut off with a sharp tool before planting. Planting is carried out so that the tops of the buds are under the substrate for distillation.
To provide the pots with planting material with a sufficiently high temperature, they are assigned a place above the heating radiators. But we must not forget that flowers need high humidity. Therefore, three times a day they are sprayed with warm water.
It is necessary to carefully monitor the sprouts so as not to miss the hour when they reach a height of 5 cm. From that moment on, the frequency of spraying is reduced and the plants are provided with sufficient light. The temperature of the content from this day must be reduced to + 17 … + 18 ° С. When the buds are tied, spraying the plants with water is stopped, but the substrate is regularly moistened under the lily of the valley so that the soil mixture remains stably moist. In the future, this planting material can be used for forcing only after moving the lilies of the valley into well-fertilized soil in the open field for at least 2 years.
