Cucumber white rot is found almost everywhere cucumbers are grown. Gardeners especially often encounter it indoors. And this attack develops on all parts of growing crops - from the roots to the very fruits. At the same time, white rot can attack cucumbers at any stage of their development - from the moment of the appearance of tiny shoots and up to the formation of fruits. Young plants at the very beginning of summer often die as a result of damage to the stems and the root system. In addition, the unfortunate ailment often causes drying of fruiting stems

A few words about the disease

On the areas of growing crops attacked by white rot, the formation of a white mycelium is observed, which turns black after some time. In this case, plant tissues become watery. If the infected areas of the cucumber come into contact with healthy ones, then a harmful ailment with lightning speed can cover all cucumber plantings.

With the development of a pathogenic mycelium inside the stems, mucus may appear on the stems with fruits. The infection spreads especially quickly in the case of poor ventilation and with thickened plantings, while destroying fruit-bearing plants.

There is also a latent form of this disease - cucumbers may look completely healthy, but they will not be suitable for consumption, because they rot quickly enough. And even in a salted form, such cucumbers are capable of decomposition.

The causative agent of white rot in cucumbers is the pathogenic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. In addition to cucumbers, this pathogen is capable of infecting other plants (from more than sixty families).

The infection persists in the form of fungal sclerotia in plant debris and in the soil. At the same time, the pathogen can persist in the soil for quite a long time. And the primary infection of cucumber plantings is facilitated by harmful ascospores. To a large extent, the development of white rot is facilitated by low daily temperatures in combination with increased soil moisture.

How to fight

The main agrotechnical measures to combat white rot of cucumber are the observance of crop rotation, as well as the collection of plant residues with their subsequent burning. By the way, for the best effect, plant residues are recommended to be removed together with a two- or three-centimeter top soil layer. Decaying stems with fruits should be discarded regularly, and decayed young crops should be removed along with a soil clod.

In greenhouses, it is extremely important to maintain an optimal hydrothermal regime. Systematic ventilation is a great help to reduce air humidity in greenhouses and greenhouses. And it is best to water cucumbers in the evenings. In this case, it is important to ensure that the water for irrigation is warm.

It is recommended to sprinkle cucumber fabrics attacked by white rot with chalk, ash or crushed coal. And some summer residents coat the infected areas with a special pink paste, for the preparation of which chalk is mixed with water and potassium permanganate.

Particularly severely affected areas should be cut out, while capturing part of healthy tissue. And greenhouses, together with the soil, must be periodically thoroughly disinfected.

Foliar dressing of cucumbers will serve well - for their implementation, ten grams of urea, two grams of copper sulfate and one gram of zinc sulfate are diluted in ten liters of water.

During the growing season, it is allowed to water the growing cucumbers with the Planriz solution (0.1%). The use of the drug "Trichodermin" will also bring a lot of benefit, as well as the coating of cucumber stalks with a mixture of "Sumileks" and "Rovral" in the form of an aqueous solution. A good effect is obtained by treating cucumbers with the preparation "Hom", about forty grams of which is dissolved in ten liters of water. However, processing with this tool is allowed only after harvesting.
