Korzhinsky's aster, false, alpine - these are synonyms of one plant. For the similarity of inflorescences, the people are affectionately called - chamomile. In the middle of the 18th century K. Linney first described it in his Encyclopedia. What features distinguish Alpine aster from chamomile?
Biological features
Perennial dwarf shrub belongs to the Asteraceae family. It has a low height of 10-30 cm. The thickened root is located superficially, horizontally has many branches.
A strong stem with a large number of lateral branches is formed from the bud at the base of the root. Dark green velvet, elongated thin leaf plates in the lower part are larger, closer to the crown they become smaller.
The inflorescences are similar in shape to small daisies up to 5, 5 cm in diameter. The bright yellow core is framed by elongated petals at the edges. The color varies depending on the variety: white, pinkish, lilac, purple, blue. Modern hybrid forms have increased terry.
The buds bloom from late May to July; in late specimens, flowering continues until mid-August. On one bush, this process takes 1-1.5 months.
Small brown seeds ripen in September, collected in baskets. At the end of the seed there is a fluffy "tail" that helps the plant to conquer new territories, moving along with the wind over long distances.
Preferences
In the wild, it grows in mountainous areas on rocky soils near rivers. Found in Asia, Europe, Transcarpathia, Urals, Mongolia, China, North America, Tajikistan. It is listed in the Red Book for many regions of Russia.
Loves well-lit places, puts up with openwork penumbra. In open areas, it forms beautiful lush bushes.
Excessive watering of the aster leads to decay of the root system. Therefore, it is preferable to dry, well filled with humus soils with the addition of lime components.
Does not tolerate flooding by ground water, melt water. Winters in Central Russia without additional shelter.
Reasons for the change in appearance
With proper care, the aster blooms magnificently, quickly grows bushes, does not require much time for processing, and is rarely affected by pests and diseases.
If you notice changes in the appearance of your pet, then the recommendations below will help determine the cause:
1.
Premature yellowing of leaves. Insufficient watering or manifestation of a fungal disease. To begin with, try to increase the rate of water application under the bushes, feed the plants with complex fertilizer. Then treat with Topaz according to the instructions.
2.
Grayish felt bloom on the leaf plate with subsequent blackening. With excessive moisture (during prolonged torrential rains), excessive feeding with nitrogen fertilizers, powdery mildew becomes infected. Prevention is the planting of bushes in a well-ventilated, well-lit place, according to the norm of 6-8 pieces per 1 square meter, reducing irrigation to the optimal amount, balanced fertilization. When the disease manifests itself, treatment with Fitosporin.
3.
Light cobweb on the inside of the leaf, point pricks, clearly visible in the light. High humidity, high temperature create favorable conditions for the development of spider mites. It multiplies especially strongly in greenhouses, hotbeds when growing seedlings. Regular airing of the premises, watering at the root, spraying with soap-ash infusions, helps to reduce the number of pests. In case of mass destruction, "Akarin" is used.
4.
Green or dark small insects sitting on young succulent parts of the plant (leaves, shoots). This is a colony of aphids. Weakened plants, which are delayed in development, are affected by excessive nitrogen fertilization. Manual destruction of the pest, balanced feeding. With a large amount of treatment with "Akarin".
5.
Physiological reasons. Thickened plantings in a shady place lead to stretching of shoots, pale color of leaves, few or no buds. The development of plants is delayed, shifted to later periods of flowering.
Knowing the reasons for the change in appearance, it is easy to eliminate the consequences.
Based on my experience, I can say that in my flower beds for 3 years of growing Alpine asters, none of the above factors were present.
We will consider the selection achievements of the culture in the next article.
