Planting material for modern alpine asters is expensive. Over time, the bushes grow, forming lush specimens. It is possible to increase the planting due to the methods of reproduction of your favorite flower. What options are suitable for mountain culture?

Breeding types

For reproduction of the alpine aster bushes you like, 2 methods are used:

• seed;

• vegetative.

The first method takes more time, the most laborious, it allows you to get a sufficient amount of planting material at a time. The second option consists of two techniques: cuttings, division of adult specimens. Output of daughter outlets is limited from one mother bush.

Let's take a closer look at the reproduction technique.

Seed method

In early March, the boxes are filled with a fertile mixture of sand, humus, garden soil. Grooves are marked every 3-4 cm. Spill with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. They also disinfect seeds before sowing.

The swollen grains are slightly dried. Lay out in rows. Sprinkle with a layer of earth 0.5 cm high. Seal from above by hand. Cover with foil. Put away in a warm, bright place.

After 1-1, 5 weeks, the first seedlings appear. Gradually remove the shelter. Water it 1-2 times a week with a solution of potassium permanganate. In the phase of 3 true leaves, they dive in separate cups, allowing the asters to form a strong stem. You can skip this procedure if you spread the seeds 3-4 cm apart during sowing.

At the initial stage, additional lighting of seedlings with phytolamps is required in the morning and evening hours. Watering is alternated with fertilizing young plants with complex fertilizers for flowers. At the end of May, after the onset of steadily warm weather, they are planted in a permanent place.

Experienced flower growers practice direct sowing of asters in April under film shelters in a garden plot. At the same time, the seedlings are strong, seasoned, with dark green leaf plates. Less maintenance required during the initial period.

Seed bushes bloom in the second year of life. They are more adapted to new living conditions.

Division of bushes

Every 3-4 years, the overgrown alpine aster bushes are rejuvenated by dividing adult specimens. Daughter sockets fully inherit the maternal traits. This technique allows you to preserve the decorative effect of plants. Otherwise, there is a decrease in the size of the inflorescences, the dying off of individual branches.

The operation is performed in early spring or late summer. In dry periods, delenki take root worse.

They dig up the plants completely, trying to disturb the root system less. Pieces with 2-3 shoots are cut off with a sharp tool, a powerful underground part. The sections are sprinkled with ash. Planted immediately to a permanent place.

Cuttings

At the beginning of summer, well-developed, healthy plants are noted. Cut off the top cuttings 5-7 cm in size. Pinch the growth point, remove the leaf plates completely in the lower part. Dip in Kornevin powder, shake off the excess amount of stimulant.

Ridges are prepared 2 weeks before planting. They scatter rotted manure, ash, nitroammophos. They dig a shovel onto a bayonet, removing the roots of the weeds. On heavy loams, river sand is added. Give the soil time to shrink.

Mark grooves every 15 cm. Spill with water. Cuttings are planted 10-15 cm apart in a row at an angle of 45 degrees. Compact the earth around the stem. The ridges are covered with a film through arcs to create high humidity.

Watered weekly with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. They are fed once a month with the complex fertilizer Agricola or Zdraven. Weeds are weeded regularly in the phase of "thin thread", not allowing them to grow good roots.

A month later, with a favorable outcome of the operation, the dormant buds start to grow, forming lateral shoots. The film is removed by the end of summer. Gradually accustoming plants to changes in ambient humidity.

For the winter, the young are covered with sawdust, left in the seedling bed until spring. The grafting method is used on elite varieties. It gives a larger amount of planting material from one plant, retains the original characteristics.

We will consider planting, the method of caring for Alpine aster in the next article.
