Alpine aster is grown in the open field. For hobbyists who do not have their own garden, options for home cultivation are suitable. Let's get acquainted in more detail with the basic techniques of agricultural technology
Planting open ground
They dig a flowerbed in the spring, removing the roots of the weeds. The holes are marked every 15 cm in a checkerboard pattern. Spill abundantly with water. The finished seedlings are placed in the center, spreading the roots. Sprinkle with a mixture of garden soil, humus, sand, eggshell. Sealed by hand around the perimeter. The near-trunk zone is mulched with sawdust or peat.
In damp places on clay soils, drainage is arranged at a depth of 30 cm before planting. Broken brick, expanded clay or crockery shards are poured onto the bottom. Above is a layer of sand 8-10 cm high. Then the fertile soil.
Outdoor care
The bushes are watered throughout the season 1-2 times a week, depending on weather conditions. In dry periods, the rate is increased. During flowering, additional moisture helps to form large buds, gives brightness to multi-colored varieties.
Weeds are removed in a timely manner in the "thin thread" phase, without giving competitors a chance to grow a powerful root system. Loosening of the near-trunk area, saturates the soil with air, closes the evaporation of moisture.
After flowering, dried buds are removed so that the plants do not waste energy on ripening the seeds (if this is not necessary). This technique retains a beautiful appearance, increases the size of subsequent inflorescences.
Aster grows in one place for 3-5 years. Therefore, the bushes need additional nutrition throughout the season. Once a month, the plants are fed with the complex Zdraven fertilizer, dissolving a tablespoon in a bucket of water. In the fall, nitrogen components are excluded from the composition to prepare the aster for wintering.
No cover is required in the Middle Lane. My beauties successfully withstood the freezing rain in the fall of 2019, which covered the plants before the snow fell. The bushes were under the crust all winter. In the spring, I found no damage. The flowering was profuse.
Landing at home
Planting bushes in a container allows you to grow pets on the windowsills of the house. Windows are chosen with diffused light throughout the day. Direct sunlight can cause leaf burns.
The volume of the pot is at least 3 liters, providing enough space for a good root system to form, which reaches 30 cm in depth. The containers take 35 cm in height with a margin for the drainage layer.
Prepare a fertile mixture of peat, humus, sand in a ratio of 1: 2: 1. Reduce the acidity of the soil by adding a small amount of dolomite flour or crushed eggshells.
At the bottom, drainage from expanded clay is arranged with a layer of 2 cm. A hole is pierced in the pot to drain excess moisture. Fill the container with half the rate of earth. Bushes are installed in the center, straightening the roots. The missing soil is poured from the sides. The near-trunk zone is compacted by hand, watered with water.
Features of room care
The optimum growing temperature for alpine asters is 20-22 degrees. During the rest period, it decreases to +10 degrees. The humidity of the ambient air is maintained within 55-60%.
Watering is rare, in moderation, when the soil dries up to a depth of 5 cm. Excessive moisture leads to root rot. They are fed twice a year: in the spring after coming out of dormancy, during the period of bud formation. The complex fertilizer "Kemira for Flowers" is used.
Alpine aster is a wonderful perennial for landscaping a garden, balcony, apartment. Plant an unpretentious plant to enjoy the active opening of many buds for several months. Terry varieties will add a special charm to the composition.
