Echinodorus Amazonian is found mainly in South American waters located in the Amazon region. It is no less common in the waters of Cuba, Colombia and Brazil. This wonderful, spectacular and at the same time unpretentious plant perfectly adapts to aquarium conditions and, therefore, is incredibly popular among aquarists, who often call it "Amazon". Echinodorus Amazonian is good because it is characterized by uniform growth throughout all seasons

Getting to know the plant

Echinodorus Amazonian is endowed with bright green leaves, folding into dense spectacular rosettes. Despite the fact that the height of the largest specimens of this aquatic inhabitant usually does not exceed forty centimeters, Amazonian Echinodorus is able to occupy truly huge areas. Each of its bush forms a huge number of delicate leaves of light green shades (sometimes up to forty pieces). In length, these leaves reach 35 - 40 cm, and their width is most often 5 - 6 cm.

This gorgeous aquatic plant is a great help in preparing aquariums for placing a variety of animals and other plants in them. In addition, Amazonian Echinodorus maintains balance in aquariums, serves as an excellent biofilter and takes an active part in the circulation of substances in aquariums.

How to grow

Aquariums for growing Amazonian Echinodorus are suitable for absolutely any volume. This aquatic plant can easily withstand temperatures ranging from 16 to 28 degrees. However, it is highly undesirable to keep Amazonian Echinodorus in cold water for too long. The best temperature for him will be about 24 degrees.

The range of water hardness for growing this handsome man can also be quite large - in both slightly acidic and alkaline aquatic environments, Amazonian Echinodorus will feel quite comfortable. The water for its cultivation must be clean and regularly changed.

The selection of soil must be taken with all responsibility - since it must contain a variety of nutrients to the maximum, accordingly, it must be well silted up. In principle, natural silting of the soil is usually sufficient for the Amazonian Echinodorus. The optimal soil thickness for the full development of the root system will be about five centimeters or more, and the nature of the substrate is completely unimportant. It has been noticed that this aquatic beauty grows well in aquariums filled with coarse sand, in which there are also various organic residues serving as fertilizers. And when planting this plant directly into the sand holes, it is recommended to add a small amount of turf soil.

Echinodorus Amazonian is quite undemanding to lighting - it can grow for quite a long time even without light at all, but in this case its leaves will gradually lose their color. The nature of the lighting is not of fundamental importance either - it can be sunlight, or it can be fluorescent lamps. The daylight hours of the Amazonian Echinodorus are about twelve hours. A strong overhead diffused light contributes to its best development.

As for dressings, they are practically not required for this handsome man. Only in too soft water the Amazonian echinodorus may need mineral fertilizing. They should be carried out in rather small portions - for every 100 liters of water they will need only 1 - 2 g. To feed the Amazonian Echinodorus is quite enough once a week.

This aquatic inhabitant reproduces in aquariums exclusively vegetatively, through the formation of daughter plants. Periodically, flower stalks form on the Amazonian Echinodorus, on which quite a lot of young plants appear under water. It is possible to release such processes from mother plants immediately after they have formed a rosette of leaves and a root system.

When growing Amazonian Echinodorus, it is important to know that it reacts very negatively to frequent transplants.
