Amazonian grape (lat. Pourouma cecropiifolia) Is a fruit crop belonging to the Mulberry family.

Description

Amazonian grapes - a low deciduous tree reaching a height of fifteen meters. True, the height of most of the trees rarely exceeds seven to nine meters. The bark on the trunks is painted in grayish tones, and the round or oval-rounded leaves are almost white below, and bright dark green above.

The fruits of this plant are folded into huge, truly royal bunches - it is because of these bunches that the tree got its unusual name. All berries have an elliptical or rounded shape and are characterized by relatively small sizes - their diameter ranges from half a centimeter to four centimeters. Each fruit is covered with an inedible and slightly rough skin, which turns into rich purple tones as it ripens. The white juicy pulp contained inside the fruit has a slightly slimy consistency and smells very nice. And each berry contains one conical seed.

The berries of the Amazonian grapes have an external resemblance to the notorious acai berries, so they are often confused. In fact, there is nothing in common between them.

Where grows

In the wild, such an interesting fruit is common in the picturesque Amazon basin in western Brazil, as well as in the Peruvian, Colombian and Ecuadorian territories and in a number of other tropical countries. It is in these countries that the delicious Amazonian grapes have been grown on an agricultural scale over the past few decades.

Application

Amazonian grapes can also be eaten fresh, but most often they are used to make wine - since there are wine cultures of fungi on the surface of the berries, they begin to ferment rather quickly even in the absence of yeast. In addition, these juicy fruits are actively used for the preparation of delicious refreshing drinks and in the confectionery industry - wonderful confitures, the most delicate jam and delicious jams are made from them.

The fruit of the Amazonian grape has an excellent blood-thinning and pronounced diuretic effect, and also helps to strengthen weakened muscle and bone tissue and increase hemoglobin. And the antioxidants contained in them with pectin actively help cleanse the body of toxins, including radionuclides and the most dangerous salts of heavy metals. There are a lot of vitamins in such berries, especially ascorbic acid and B vitamins. Amazon grapes are an excellent assistant in curing various kidney diseases, and their regular use helps to strengthen the immune system and maintain the beauty of hair and skin at the proper level.

Since the berries of this grape variety are very delicate, they do not tolerate transportation very well, which is why they are very rarely found on sale. And on the territory of Russia and the countries of the former CIS, this culture is practically unknown at all.

Amazonian grapes are surprisingly thermophilic - they stop growing at sixteen degrees. And since it also loves moisture, its distribution area is limited to regions, the annual rainfall in which varies from 1000 to 3400 mm. But this culture also does not tolerate waterlogging of the soil - if the growing zone is flooded, the Amazonian grapes will also die. But he feels great even on the poorest soils!
