A dive, or dive, is the removal of the end part of the rod roots from the grown seedlings. The purpose of this event is to stimulate the branching of the root system. Traditionally, picking is also called any transplantation into individual containers from the general ones. The small pointed pegs used for a dive are called a pique
A little about picking seedlings
Seeds for seedlings in almost all cases are sown in a weak mixture with a relatively poor chemical composition. Usually, for this purpose, peat is used, which is previously combined with ash in a small amount (to reduce the acidity of the soil). Seedlings are sown mostly densely and densely, relying on the fact that some of the sprouted shoots will be very weak, and a certain part of the seeds will not sprout at all.
After germination, it is important to separate and plant young plants in a timely manner so that they receive more light and vital nutrient mixture. Only in this case will they become more persistent and strong, and will also be able to develop a powerful root system.
Yellowed, thin and weak seedlings must be discarded without fail, that is, when picking, low-grade seedlings are immediately removed. A special pique spatula, stick or pencil is used when making a dive so that the fragile root system does not get damaged.
Before starting the pick, all the vegetation is watered abundantly and left to stand for 20 - 30 minutes, so that the earth becomes much more pliable and softer - if this rule is followed, it will be much easier to separate the thin roots and stems.

The seedling, held by the cotyledonous leaves, is removed with a spatula. It is not recommended to hold the plant legs for the reason that fragile stems break easily from the touch of the hands. The seedling separated by the spatula is removed from the ground, carefully cutting off its central rhizome and leaving only 2/3 of its original size. Nail scissors can help you with this.
Further, in the pot where it is planned to transplant the seedling, a small depression is made, deepening it to the so-called growth point (this is how the small seal located just above the rhizome is called) or another half a centimeter deeper.
The transplanted seedling is immediately sprinkled on top of the earth with a slight pressure of the layer, after which it should be watered with water at room temperature, and then transferred to a dark place for 2 - 3 days.
It's important to know
When picking vegetation, it is very important to take into account a number of important features.
Vegetation should be replanted as soon as a couple of tiny cotyledon leaves emerge. Some summer residents are in no hurry to transplant, worrying that they can damage overly fragile young stems. And in vain. The younger the seedlings, the sooner they adapt after transplanting. In addition, they have the opportunity to strengthen their roots until they are planted in the ground and thereby reduce the likelihood of various diseases.
Seedlings never deepen above their growth point, otherwise their development slows down or stops altogether.
Before placing them in separate containers, the roots of plants are advised to be disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate (0.01 g per liter of water, literally a few crystals). This procedure is important when picking, as the tiny seedlings are still very weak to deal with harmful bacteria. And timely disinfection makes it possible to avoid infection with various fungal diseases or hateful and destructive rot.
Until the seedlings start to please with a friendly growth, it is better to avoid feeding. From the day of the pick, the average exposure time is approximately six to eight days. Seedlings immediately after the end of the pick are in shock, and they need to be given time to adapt and get used to unfamiliar and new conditions for them. That is why fertilizers are introduced not immediately after the pick, but after some time.

Picking: Why Waste Extra Time?
Many gardeners are wondering: why waste time picking, because you can sow seeds and just wait for strong seedlings to rise in containers, and not injure the plant with unnecessary worries. It is not enough just to sow seeds and provide them with conditions for germination; more often than not, picking cannot be done without. What you need to know in order for plant transplantation to be carried out efficiently and without losses

Not all vegetable crops benefit from picking. But for tomato seedlings, this operation helps to stimulate the development of the root system, harden and strengthen the plant. They start picking when the seedlings acquire the first pair of true leaves. What rules do you need to know for such a procedure to be successful?
