Echinodorus narrow-leaved is concentrated mainly in the water bodies of the central regions of South America. And the aquarium conditions for this handsome man are also great. Since it develops very evenly throughout the year, the aquarium with this wonderful green pet will look spectacular all year round. This rather unpretentious aquatic beauty has long been loved by aquarists and is willingly used by them as a decor

Getting to know the plant

Echinodorus narrow-leaved grows to a maximum of forty-five centimeters and pleases the eye with bright green leaves of a rather peculiar shape. These leaves are somewhat vaguely reminiscent of Vallisneria. However, not only the leaves, but also his entire structure as a whole, are peculiar to an elegant handsome man.

All leaves of Echinodorus angustifolia are quite elongated, collected in rosettes, characterized by the absence of leaf petioles and have a lanceolate shape.

How to grow

Echinodorus narrow-leaved can easily exist at a fairly solid temperature range. And yet, the most suitable for its comfort will be either moderately warm vessels, or tropical, the water temperature in which is in the range from twenty to twenty-eight degrees.

The active reaction of the aquatic environment to the wonderful Echinodorus narrow-leaved is suitable neutral or slightly alkaline (but the acidic will greatly inhibit its development), and the water hardness should ideally be medium. Approximately three times a month, this handsome man needs to change the water.

The soil selected for an elegant aquatic plant should be properly silted, and it is better to prefer small pebbles or sand as a substrate. The ground layer is usually laid with a thickness of three centimeters. If the thickness of the soil exceeds the mark of four centimeters, you will need to systematically thoroughly clean it from organic matter.

Echinodorus narrow-leaved at the stage of its rapid development and growth needs systematic feeding with all kinds of minerals and a variety of complex fertilizers. And in order to prevent nitrogen starvation, it is useful to regularly add urea in the amount of five to ten granules for every hundred liters of water.

A charming aquatic inhabitant needs very intense lighting, since the lack of light contributes to a decrease in the saturation of the color of his funny leaves. Older leaves become faded green, and young ones gradually lose their reddish-brownish shades. This graceful handsome man loves diffused sunlight most of all. Artificial light sources can be both fluorescent lamps, beloved by aquarists, and the simplest incandescent lamps. And as for the duration of daylight hours, depending on the intensity of the lighting provided to the wondrous handsome man, it can vary from eight to fourteen hours a day.

The graceful echinodorus narrow-leaved vegetatively reproduces - this happens through the formation of new young plants on the antennae of the aquatic beauty creeping along the ground. Antennae of a graceful plant grows quite a lot, and the daughter specimens making their way onto them are usually about five to ten centimeters apart from each other. It is not possible to separate the children without damage to the antennae, therefore, all antennae are divided into several parts, on each of which at least one perfectly formed new plant is left, which has given five to six leaves. And the end parts of the antennae, on which three or four tiny processes remain, are not recommended to be divided - the remaining lashes are usually pressed to the ground with the help of glass pins or pebbles.

In humid greenhouses, it is often possible to obtain the seeds of an elegant water beauty, since it often blooms in favorable greenhouse conditions. Pollination in this case is carried out artificially using a soft brush. However, it is still much easier to propagate a wonderful plant vegetatively.
