What flowers we sow on seedlings in February

We sowed the first seeds for seedlings in January. But you can't sow everything at once, because everyone has different periods of germination, growth, flowering and other indicators. Therefore, in February we will sow several more types of flowers. We will look at what exactly needs to be sown in this article. I'll start with one of my favorite flowers - lobelia

Lobelia

A very beautiful flower, but you need to plant it in a group to get a solid carpet. When lobelia blooms, the leaves are not visible and a small lake of blue, pink, white and other colors spreads on the flower bed. Lobelia is exactly the flower that will look harmonious on a flowerbed, as a border flower, in a rockery, and in a flowerpot, and in some composition, for example, it "flows" from an overturned bucket.

In general, this flower is considered a perennial, but in the conditions of the Russian climate, lobelia is more common as an annual flower. Although in the fall it can be dug out from a flower bed, transplanted into a pot or flowerpot and continue to grow indoors, and with the onset of warmth, planted again in open ground.

So, to get seedlings of lobelia at the end of February, we sow seeds, if we did not have time, then we can plant it in March. Since lobelia is a rather capricious flower, it is better to plant seeds in purchased soil. Also, note that the seeds are very small and difficult to sow evenly, so they can be mixed with ash or sand for easier labor and more even distribution. There is also an easier option: you can just buy granulated seeds. By the way, they can be sown directly into cassettes or peat tablets for seedlings and then you don't have to dive them. But with ordinary seeds in bags, this number will not work, they will have to be dived in any case.

How to sow lobelia?

We take a container prepared in advance for planting seedlings, fill it with a substrate, moisten the earth. Then carefully scatter the lobelia seeds over the surface. We cover with glass or film, then transfer to a warm and always bright place. Every day we remove the film or glass for a short time, let the seeds air a little. We are waiting for seedlings that appear in about 7-14 days. Then we remove the glass or other covering material. We water it carefully, as necessary, just spray water from a spray bottle, by the way, you can add a few grains of manganese to it, if you find it on sale.

After the emergence of seedlings, we wait until the seedlings grow a little and get stronger, then we dive, planting small groups of 2-3 plants in our "house", that is, in our glass or cell. Lobelia is usually planted on a flower bed at the very beginning of June.

Viola

Very beautiful, bright flowers. They are also popularly called pansies or violets (depending on the region, probably, but I've heard both names). In spring, bright islands of these flowers delight the eye and always cheer up. It is preferable to sow viola on seedlings in the last winter month. In this case, for growing seedlings, you will need not only pre-purchased seeds of the flowers you like, but also special soil for violets (sold in any garden store and even in ordinary large hypermarkets). There is nothing complicated in sowing. We fill any container in which we plan to grow seedlings with a special substrate, make grooves and scatter the seed in them. By the way, before sowing, seeds can be placed in Epin's solution for a day. After that, the seed is carefully distributed over the grooves and covered with soil. Then gently water, preferably with a spray bottle, cover with a film and take it out into a room where the air temperature is about 15-17 degrees, no more. After about 7-10 days, the seeds will germinate, after which the film must be removed. Further care of the seedlings will consist of timely watering. You can apply mineral fertilizer 1-2 times a month.

Then, when the flower has two to four true leaves, the pansies dive, seating them in separate containers or cassettes for seedlings, so that later they do not injure the roots by transplanting them into open ground. By the way, seedlings are planted in open ground at the end of April-in May, depending on weather conditions.
