Silver jewelry looks very attractive due to its unique luster. But so that it does not tarnish, it is necessary to periodically clean the silver. How easy is it to do at home?
Cleaning of silver items - antique water jugs, teapots and silverware - is to remove black dullness, dark silver deposits, which are formed for various reasons (time, exposure to sweat and sebum, moisture, chemical composition of the air, etc.). For cleaning, there are various chemical liquid agents, usually with an unpleasant odor. Their use for cleaning silver items is unsafe.
In addition, silver molecules can be gradually removed along with the plaque. Many chemicals contain ammonia, which is irritating to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. They quickly remove trade marks, pollination, and with them the natural shine of the metal. Silver becomes dull and lifeless, sometimes even pitting and other damage appears. This is why it is helpful to consider natural silver cleaning methods that are simple and affordable for home use. Let's list some of them:
1. Aluminum foil
Aluminum foil is best for cleaning tarnished silver. She, like a magic wand, polishes silver surfaces - the spots disappear right before your eyes. For this you need:
* Purchase or take from the kitchen aluminum foil for baking.
* In a glass of boiling water, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda and sea salt, half a cup of white vinegar.
* Polish silver items with a soft cloth.
* To avoid burns, silver items must be removed from boiling water with tongs.
The silver purification process is carried out in the following sequence:
* The water is heated to a boil.
* Then it is mixed with other ingredients.
* Pour the vinegar into the pot slowly and carefully after adding all the ingredients.
* Silver items are placed in boiling water. You need to check that they are in contact with the foil.
* After 30-60 seconds, remove the silver from the water with tongs.
* Products are wiped and polished with a piece of soft cloth.
2. Ketchup
Use commercial ketchup to remove stains from silver. A paper towel is taken, a little ketchup is applied to it, which is rubbed into the tarnished silver surface until a shine appears. On heavily soiled surfaces, ketchup is left for half an hour. You can rub ketchup with a toothbrush.
3. Baking soda
Old silver that has lost its attractive appearance can be cleaned not only with aluminum foil or ketchup. You can use baking soda for this purpose. The amount of baking soda will be needed to completely cover the surface of the contaminated silver. The silver should be dipped in powder for 30 minutes. Then use a soft cloth and hot water to polish the silver and rinse with hot water.
4. Alcohol
Weak mineral stains are removed with a composition prepared from 4 parts of water and 1 part of alcohol. A soft cloth is moistened in the solution and the silver surfaces are wiped with it, after which you need to wipe the silver with a dry cloth.
5. Corn starch
Mix starch powder with water until a thick paste is obtained, apply it to a soft damp cloth and dry. Then clean the contaminated silver surfaces and wipe them with a dry cloth.
6. Banana peel
Eating a banana can not only satisfy hunger or add energy. The peel of this vegetable can be used to peel silverware. It turns out that banana peels do an excellent job of cleaning dull silver, removing stains from it, giving it a shine and a beautiful look.
For this, banana paste is prepared. The peel from three bananas is ground in a blender and mixed with a little water to form a paste. A toothbrush is immersed in it, with which silver surfaces are processed. After cleaning, the remnants of the silver are washed off with water. The items are dried or wiped with a dry, clean and soft cloth.
7. Toothpaste
Many people use toothpaste to clean the surfaces of precious metals - gold and silver. The process is similar to brushing your teeth. A small amount of toothpaste is squeezed onto a soft and clean cloth, which is then used to polish the silver product.
When the silver surface is heavily soiled or dull, you can wrap it with a cloth squeezed with some toothpaste and leave it on for a couple of minutes. After rinsing, the silver will shine like new.
