Habitat
In Russia, there were many names for this plant: golden rod, goldenrod, flea beetle, honey cake, hornbeam, yellow flowers, golden feather, puff. All of them are associated with the structure or properties of culture. Each province gave its name to the fluffy bushes. It translates from Latin as "strong", "healthy", due to the presence of healing properties.
North America is considered the homeland of solidago. There are over 80 species here. 23 varieties grow on the territory of Russia. It is found in the wild in the Caucasus, western and eastern Siberia, the Far East, and the Middle Belt.
Loves light forests, edges, clearings, glades, roadside ditches, meadows.
Biological features
A perennial plant with a lignified tap root. Stems are straight, 25-100 cm high, with weak pubescence. The leaves are oblong-ovate, alternate, the lower ones are on petioles, the upper ones are sessile. The edge is slightly serrate.
The inflorescences of the basket consist of two types: the edging of reed flowers, the center - tubular variants of a yellow shade, collected in panicles or brushes. Tough petals adorn the stems for a month. Blossom from July to September. Low-growing varieties bloom earlier than tall specimens. Pollinated by wind, insects.
The fruit is a ribbed, pubescent achene 0.4 cm long, equipped with a tuft, which allows the planting material to be transported over considerable distances.
Varieties
The varietal diversity of solidago has increased in recent years due to foreign breeding hybrids. The basis was two types of canadian goldenrod (low and medium plant growth) and hybrid (tall specimens).
