In the long list of indoor plants useful for humans among chlorophytums, citrus fruits, and others, which generously enrich the room with phytoncides and oxygen, one cannot fail to mention one more modest woman - sansevieria. You may be familiar with this flower by another name - mother-in-law's tongue, pike tail, or snake skin. Despite these frightening names, the plant is extremely necessary and useful for humans. And it is all the more pleasant that it is undemanding to care for
Why pike tail is useful
In addition to the fact that sansevieria releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide, it has a number of undeniable advantages. First of all, this indoor flower cleans apartments and houses from formaldehyde. And since it would be uncomfortable to live without furniture, it is advisable to acquire several pots of sansevieria, propagate this plant and share it with relatives.
In addition, sansevieria has become very relevant in our time, when people began to actively replace old wooden windows with plastic frames. This amazing plant cleans the indoor air from plastic secretions. Therefore, generously decorate plastic windowsills with pike-tailed containers.
Maintenance of sansevieria in room conditions
In addition to the listed advantages, mother-in-law's tongue has another indisputable advantage. Namely - he is very undemanding to care for.
The plant loves the sun, but at the same time belongs to shade-tolerant pets. You need to water the flower infrequently. In winter, watering is reduced. The only difficulty that an amateur florist may encounter is dusting the overgrown leaves of a plant. Spraying is also beneficial.
Sansevieria does not belong to decorative flowering plants. But when she shoots a flower arrow, it's a truly magical moment. Her flowers are small, inconspicuous. But these little ones smell so strong and so pleasant that they can compete with the beauty of the scent with the most exquisite flowers.
How snake skin reproduces
There are several ways to propagate sansevieria:
• division during transplantation;
• leaves;
• leafy cuttings.
It should be borne in mind that variegated forms, for example, such as three-lane sansevieria, should be propagated only by dividing the plant in order to maintain its interesting color. When grafting, the light border framing the leaf does not appear. The baby grows only with dark transverse stripes on the leaves.
It is recommended to divide plants in the spring - from March to April. To do this, choose shallow but wide pots. This form is needed in order to provide comfortable conditions for the rhizome. And the root system of sansevieria is located in the upper layer.
The soil mixture should be light. If it is prepared independently, for this they take one part of deciduous-humus and sod land, and then mix it with the same amount of sand.
When propagating by cuttings, it is better to take an old leaf. Before disembarking, he needs to be allowed to lie down in a dark place for several days. After that, plant in the ground or divide into cuttings. From one leaf, you can cut 5-10 cuttings approximately 10 cm long.
From the sheet, the baby appears faster. Already a few months later, young sprouts appear from the roots. But there is a danger of decay, and then the planting material simply disappears.
And from the cuttings, the baby will have to wait longer. This period can stretch for a year or more. But in the process of rooting, there are more chances that at least a few cuttings will be accepted, not rotted and the children will be released.
Rooting of cuttings takes place over several months. To root the cuttings, you can immerse a container with sand and do not forget to moisten it periodically. Or into an easy land. When the roots appear, it is advisable to transplant the cuttings into separate pots with more nutritious soil. After that, you can wait for the appearance of children. But you should be patient, because the process is not quick.
