Reproduction of raspberries on a private household farm by seed is impractical and ineffective. For repetition of varietal characteristics, it is better to use the vegetative method. And you can use a variety of parts of the bush for this: green suckers, and lignified root suckers, and root cuttings, and green root suckers. Let's take a closer look at these techniques
Propagation of bushes by root suckers
It is not at all difficult to get a raspberry seedling for reproduction on your site. But at the same time, to prevent the spread of viral ailments and fungal diseases hidden from the naked eye, it is recommended to treat the selected bush with special preparations. The most effective and easy-to-use vegetative propagation method is the method of separating raspberry root suckers. Such specimens appear every year near an adult bush and become almost ready-made planting material.
For these purposes, one-year-olds are looked after, with a sectional thickness of approximately 1 cm. In the fall, before starting to plant, this growth is shortened to a length of approximately 30 cm, then dug out of the hatched place, carefully separating it from the roots of the mother plant. The greatest potential is possessed by those seedlings that, at their base, have 1-2 large buds and a better developed root system.
Propagation of raspberries by root cuttings
When a variety in your area is not as generous with root suckers as you would like, it can be propagated with small root cuttings. They start harvesting cuttings in the autumn, when the growth of raspberries gradually stops.
The roots begin to be dug at a distance of no closer than 30 cm from the mother bush. The resulting roots are divided into pieces about 15-20 cm long. This planting material should be at least as thick as a regular pencil. Such cuttings are placed for winter storage in a container with moistened sand, and they begin to plant the roots in the school with the arrival of spring.
Reproduction of raspberries by green root suckers
This method is used to multiply varieties that gardeners especially value. It practically does not injure the bush and allows you to collect a large amount of planting material during the summer.
To do this, as the root suckers appear and grow, without waiting for their lignification, these parts of the plant are taken out of the ground along with their earthen clod, like seedlings, and moved to separate beds for growing. If the area allows, you can not bother growing seedlings in the nursery, but immediately place them in a place prepared for the plantation. After transplanting, caring for young plantings consists in shading from direct sunlight, as well as regular watering. By the fall, such raspberries should already be seedlings no less than a one-year-old shoot.
Propagation of bushes by green cuttings
Prepare for cutting green cuttings from new root suckers in early summer. The procedure is started when the offspring will have at least 2 leaves. Cuttings are cut off the ground. The collected planting material is recommended to be treated with root formation accelerators. It is more convenient to do this by tying the cuttings with a bunch and dipping the resulting bundles into a growth stimulator.
The processed planting material is rooted in greenhouses or greenhouses. For this, a nutrient substrate is prepared from the following ingredients:
• sand - 2 parts;
• sod-humus land - 1 part;
• peat - 1 part.
The scheme of planting cuttings 10x10 cm. Rooting is carried out under conditions of creating artificial fog on a heated nutrient substrate - its temperature should be maintained within + 20 … + 26 ° С. Rooting period - up to 1 month. After that, the rearing takes place in the schools. And by the fall, these will already be full-fledged annual shoots, ready for planting on a raspberry plantation.
