This is an important attribute for everyone who monitors their weight and health. Libra keeps us in good shape and does not allow us to relax, stimulating us to control the pounds eaten. But it is important to choose high-quality scales that do not lie and serve for a long time. How to do it?

Bathroom scales are relevant not only for women who are jealous of their figure and control their weight on a daily basis. It will not hurt to buy them for other people, in order to check their weight from time to time and to prevent any health problems in advance. It is difficult to imagine a modern home without bathroom scales. This is a useful accessory for health and sports, which does not take up much space and even (with a large assortment of designs and shades) can become a good accessory in the interior.

It is especially important for women who are expecting a baby to have a bathroom scale. They will help you monitor changes in weight on a daily basis and keep it under control in order to avoid possible complications during pregnancy and childbirth. After the birth of a child, the scales will be no less relevant when a woman wants to get rid of the pounds gained during pregnancy. One way or another, bathroom scales are definitely a necessary and useful thing. But how to choose them correctly, and what nuances should you pay attention to when buying them?

Scale types

First you need to understand what type of scales are needed - mechanical or electronic. In stores today you can see a huge selection of models of various types and styles from most modern companies that produce appliances. Some scales are too expensive, others are too cheap. And the very first decision that should be made is to choose their type. Everything is not so complicated here: there are mechanical models and electronic ones. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, comparing which you can make the best choice.

Mechanics

This is the simplest of the types. There are no electronic devices in such scales, only mechanical ones. At the heart of their work is the expansion and straightening of the springs, which occurs in direct proportion to the force of the impact. Such scales have been actively used since ancient times.

The principle of their operation is very simple: a person stands on them, thereby beginning to press on their surface with a certain force using his own weight. The spring, which is at the base of the balance mechanism, fixes the indicator of this force on the scale. There are not so many advantages to such scales. The main ones are: low price, ease of use and storage, savings on power supply and batteries, durability.

But they have much more disadvantages. First of all, it is a high error (more than 1 kg). The second point is the temperature in the room (should be at least +10 and not more than + 35), which also noticeably affects the indicators. And thirdly, most of these models are made of low-quality materials and are designed for a maximum of 140 kg. Therefore, they can fail more often and faster. In addition, apart from body weight, they, as a rule, do not show anything, unlike their electronic counterparts.

Electronics

The main advantages of mechanical scales are the main disadvantages of electronic models, and vice versa. An important disadvantage of the latter is that you need to constantly maintain their work with batteries or electricity. In addition, the degree of deficiency of the device may depend on the level of complexity of the electronics that is at its base: the more complex, the more fragile it is, it can quickly break down, and it is difficult (or impossible) to fix it.

When buying inexpensive electronic scales, there is a high probability of finding a defect, or their service life will be short-lived. But high-quality electronics will allow you to measure weight with a minimum error (up to 0.1 g). And special diagnostic scales show on the scoreboard the amount of fat, water in the body, muscle and bone mass and many other important indicators for health.

Helpful hints:

- When buying, it is advisable to ask about the degree of error of the scales, giving preference to the most accurate ones.

- For electronic weighing analyzers, you need to check the amount of memory: information about how many people (usually from 2-10) they can store. This allows you to more effectively monitor your weight and body parameters.

- Glass scales are not recommended to be left unattended when there are small children in the house. To measure their weight, it is better to use devices made of plastic or other, safer materials.

- The most practical and easy-care products are made of plastic. And the price for them is much lower than for devices made of glass or metal.

- In mechanical scales, the needle should not be too mobile, as well as the adjustment roller. If the parts are loosened, then perhaps the product was dropped, or it came to the store with a marriage.

- When choosing an electronic scale, it is worth evaluating the feasibility of additional functions (calculating BMI, determining fat mass, wireless monitor, diagnosing the amount of water and muscle mass, etc.): if you only need to measure weight, then why overpay?

- You shouldn't pay too much for the maximum load of the scales: for example, for those with a weight of 50-60 kg, it is enough to choose models with a limit of up to 100-150 kg.
