The beauty of any area depends on the condition of your flowers. What needs to be done in the spring so that the flower garden in the summer gives joy and arouses admiration?

May events plan

1. Inspecting ridges, flower beds, rockeries, rock gardens. We remove the garbage, loosen it, pour soil into the places of the bare roots.

2. Violets, daisies, primroses are often pushed out of the ground by their roots in spring. This is due to early vegetation and temperature extremes. We need to help these plants and work with a scoop. Dig it up and re-plant it to the usual depth.

3. If you plan to create a new flower garden - proceed to bookmark it. We mark the place, prepare the soil. It is not recommended to plant new plants immediately. Let the earth settle and settle. Therefore, spill the finished flower bed and leave it for a couple of weeks to shrink.

4. We deal with roses: removal of broken, shrunken branches damaged after winter, pruning to green bark and a "living" bud. Loosening, feeding, if necessary, treatment against infections, pests and diseases.

5. In May, you need to pay attention to irises. Their tendency to "creep" needs to be controlled. We cut off young roots that go beyond the permanent place. We dig out old rhizomes that do not give shoots and take up space, and plant new ones in their place. We throw away everything superfluous, without regret.

6. May is a fertile time for planting perennials that reproduce by dividing the bush. We thin out and plant dense plantings of berry, hosts, chrysanthemums, heuchera, daylily, phlox, astilbe, etc. It is advisable to do this before large shoots appear. We divide the primrose into sockets. You can simply take a shoot with a "heel" from the Nivyanik, Gaillardia, Astilba, Phlox and transplant it, deepening it by two centimeters.

7. We feed the clematis with nitrogen-containing mixtures, install supports for tying them up.

8. In cold spring or to improve flowering, we feed bulbous (daffodils, hyacinths, tulips) with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. In dry weather, water.

9. We are engaged in hydrangea. We remove the debris around the bush, loosen it, apply fertilizer. Pruning is best done with half-open, swollen soils. If you want to get large inflorescences, do a cardinal cropping, leaving short branches with 2-3 buds. You can maintain the length of old branches about 60-70 cm. Remember that hydrangea flower stalks appear only on annual shoots of this season.

10. May - favorable for formative pruning of rhododendrons, chubushnik, barberry.

11. Planting dahlia tubers. If frosts are not expected, from May 15 we plant gladioli on sunny grounds. It is advisable to treat the bulbs with a manganese solution (5%).

We plant annuals

1. At the beginning of May, annuals sensitive to frost are sown in the greenhouse for seedlings.

2. We sow cold-resistant flowers in the ground (first decade). For example, cosmea, mattiola, godetia, clarkia, calendula, escholzia, iberis, cornflower, poppy. Not afraid of the cold of mignonette, lobularia, nigella, lavatera, malcolmia, collinsia, clarkia, malopa, nemophila.

3. Are not afraid of recurrent frosts (resistant to -5) Shabo cloves, sweet peas, scabiosa, levkoy, hordetia, ornamental cabbage, viola. We plant these seedlings when the soil has warmed up to + 12 … + 15. At the same time, snapdragons, nasturtium, lobelia, scabiosa are planted.

4. When a comfortable temperature is established, we sow or plant seedlings of thermophilic annuals: petunia, marigolds, morning glory, alissum in a permanent place in the ground.

5. Mass planting of seedlings begins in the third decade of May. This period is generally considered safe for frost-sensitive flowers.

6. In the 20th, you can plant relatively thermophilic flowers: matricaria, seedlings of annual asters, coreopsis, verbena, rudbeckia, nirembergia, Gaillardia. As well as salvia, ageratum, glue, nirembergia.

7. When the yellow acacia blooms, containers are taken out (planting is carried out) of sprouted calla lilies, cannes, begonias, arum, agapanthus.

Flower garden care in May

The appearance of 15-20 centimeter sprouts of peonies is a signal for protective spraying against rot. Preparations containing copper are suitable, including Bordeaux liquid. For diseases in May, delphiniums, roses, irises, phlox are treated with Fitosporin.

Under peonies, phloxes and other perennials, make a hole for feeding. Spread 1-3 tablespoons of nitrophoska around the bush. The dose depends on the size of the plant and the condition of the soil. If you have mullein or bird droppings, add too - this will be a good stimulus for growth and bud formation. Under phloxes, chrysanthemums and other perennials, add ash + nitroammoforsk.

For better ripening of tulip bulbs, you need to remove faded buds. The peduncle should be cut off completely, leaving only one, the first from the ground, leaf. For daffodils, the cut is made at ground level.

There is a lot of work, of course, but you will gradually do everything and in the summer you will enjoy your flower garden.
