Ludwigia arcuate lives in nature in North American reservoirs. This elegant beauty has excellent decorative properties and grows excellently in aquariums, making their design more aesthetic and original. The growth rate of ludwigia arcuate is the same throughout the year - this property makes it especially attractive to aquarists. By the way, this water beauty also feels great in paludariums and cozy greenhouses

Getting to know the plant

Ludwigia arcuate is endowed with stems growing up to thirty centimeters in length, on which light green leaves sit in pairs. Sometimes, under especially favorable conditions, the color of the leaves of this water beauty can turn reddish-brown.

Releasing several stalks from the bases at once, the arcuate Ludwigia quickly takes the form of bushes. It looks especially good in aquariums when it is planted in the foreground. Moreover, in this case, it is advisable to plant it on a dark background in small groups, each of which contains five to six shoots. It will look great against the background of other aquatic vegetation with small foliage.

How to grow

It is best to grow Ludwigia arcuate in aquariums with relatively low water levels. And if the aquarium is large, then this aquatic beauty can be seated in separate pots that will look great on the side shelves. It will develop equally well both when landing in the ground and when floating freely on the water surface. However, in the soil, the beautiful representative of the plant world feels much more comfortable and is characterized by the best decorative qualities.

When choosing the soil for planting arcuate ludwigia, preference should be given to coarse silted sand. Since the root system of this beauty is rather weak, a very small layer of soil is allowed. From time to time, Ludwigia arched should be pampered with high-quality mineral dressings. With an excess of various trace elements, especially iron, it becomes much brighter.

The suitable temperature regime for cultivating this water beauty is in the range from twenty to twenty-eight degrees. If suddenly the temperature drops a little, the growth of Ludwigia arcuate will not slow down, only the temperature drop should be short.

The active reaction of water, as well as its hardness, does not play a significant role. But it is recommended to change the water systematically.

Ludwigia arcuate reacts extremely positively to sunlight. However, even in very low light, it will grow pretty well too. If this aquatic beauty is illuminated exclusively by sunlight, then the reddish-brown color of its leaves will completely disappear over time, and they will turn green. When organizing artificial lighting, it will be quite permissible to combine fluorescent lamps with standard incandescent lamps. And you can scatter the light for the comfortable development of the aquatic beauty and with the help of floating plants. Twelve-hour daylight hours for Ludwigia arched will be more than enough.

In aquariums, the elegant aquatic inhabitant reproduces vegetatively - for this purpose, it is enough to simply separate the tops of the stems. The most optimal length of cuttings separated will be about ten centimeters. They are either immediately rooted in the soil, or simply left to float on the surface.

To grow Ludwigia arcuate in a humid greenhouse, a plant extracted to the surface is placed in a soil covered with water. After a while, the aquatic beauty will begin to form aerial shoots, which are transplanted into ordinary garden soil, into which humus and sand were previously added in small doses. By the way, the arched Ludwigia growing in a terrestrial form can be moved to the aquarium at any time.
