Since ancient times, people have been making up legends about a beautiful flower. According to one of them, the goddess Venus went for a walk in the forest among wild animals and birds. They were delighted with her appearance, the animals were surrounded by care, the birds chirped wonderful songs. Tired, the woman lay down to sleep in the clearing under the shade of a tall tree, took off her shoes. When I woke up, I forgot about them. At this place, beautiful flowers grew, which people eventually transferred to their gardens, learned how to propagate Venus's shoes

Reproduction

The amount of planting material is increased in two ways:

• vegetative (division of rhizomes);

• seed.

In the second variant, the plants do not completely copy the original base. Using this method, scientists get new hybrids.

Vegetative way

Every 5-6 years, the rhizome of the lady's shoe gives new branches. The curtains are getting bigger. At this time, division of the mother plant into parts begins.

In mid-April, after the snow melts, the adult bushes are completely dug up. They are cleared of excess earth. Dissected with a sharp knife into divisions with several dormant buds. The sections are sprinkled with ash to avoid infection. They are planted in a permanent place, keeping the distance between individuals.

Seed method

The laborious process can be mastered by the most patient gardeners. A feature of forest orchids is the lack of nutrients inside the seeds. The seed consists of an embryo enclosed in a shell. Thanks to the fungal symbiosis, which helps to destroy the defense, which provides food for the first time, new life awakens. In the future, the reverse process of giving off the substances necessary for the mushroom takes place.

When sowing, use land brought from oak or mixed forest to increase the chance of seed germination. The seeds are very small, one fruit contains several thousand units of inoculum. Only individual bushes will sprout, reach flowering.

Collect the boxes beginning to crack in dry weather. They mark a place in the garden bed, enclosing it on all sides, protecting the future seedling from trampling. The seeds are superficially sprayed by air. You can prepare sites in different parts of the garden. Set up an experiment, observe where graceful orchids like to grow.

In the first years, young growth accumulates strength, developing underground. After 3-4 seasons, the first seedlings appear. The independent life of the shoe begins. All this time, the site is kept in a moderately moist state. Weeds are weeded regularly. Loosening is completely excluded so as not to damage the mycelium that feeds the embryo.

Seedlings bloom at the age of 8-15 years. Each bush has individual developmental processes. Favorable conditions reduce waiting times.

Landing

The specimens brought from the forest are tried to be taken with soil particles in order to preserve the symbiosis with mushrooms that has developed over the years. They will help the shoe to quickly adapt to the changed conditions of existence.

Choose a semi-shady place under the canopy of tall trees and bushes. A vertical barrier is buried around individual specimens with a margin for the growth of the curtain to a depth of 25-30 cm. This technique makes it possible to exclude the ingress of tree roots, rapidly spreading aggressive neighboring herbaceous crops in complex compositions.

Graceful orchids prefer humus forest soil of walnut-oak species. Peat of neutral reaction, sand for loosening, sphagnum moss, finely cut decayed trunks of deciduous trees are additionally added to the substrate. Exclude mineral, organic fertilizers throughout the life of the shoe.

Dig holes 20 cm deep. Add the prepared mixture. Sprinkle with water. A seedling is placed in the center. Sprinkle with soil. They gently crush the ground on all sides. Mark the landing site.

Plant care, container growing will be discussed in the next article.
