Do you think the pansies have already faded, and you are hopelessly late with planting these beautiful flowers on your site? Fortunately, viola can be sown at different times: both in early spring and in the middle of summer
What is the difference between pansies?
Viola, violet, pansies - are they the same plant or different garden flowers? All these plants belong to the violet family, so it would not be a mistake to call them that. Viola is the Latin name. The difference between pansies is that only one variety is called so - tricolor, and it is extremely fond of amateur flower growers for its variegated color of petals.
The flowers of violets are not very large, about 5 cm in diameter, but there are also varieties of giant sizes - up to 10 cm. The flowering period is about a week. They are good not only in single plantings, soloing in flower beds. They can also be used as a curb plant. From the plantings of these decorative flowering plants, beautiful ridges are made, they are decorated with the lower tier on complex mixborders.
Features of violets
Among the advantages of violets, in addition to their high aesthetic value, resistance to frosty winters and undemanding lighting conditions. Therefore, the plant can be placed in partial shade. By the way, in such conditions, the duration of the flowering of pansies increases.
But what violets do not like is droughts. You should also not place flowers on an area where fresh manure has recently been applied to the soil. The optimal conditions for development will be moderately moist, loose and sufficiently nutritious lands. It will work best on a type of soil such as loam.
Sowing viola seeds
Summer sowing of viola seeds begins in June. But here you need to make an allowance for the region. Where usually dry hot summers, it is better to take crops in the second half of July. When the Senets appear, in August, as a rule, the heat has already subsided and the air becomes more humid. So tender seedlings will not wither from the heat and at the same time will grow more seasoned. And if you hurry with planting in a dry and miserable climate, then you will have to blame yourself if the plants turned out to be weak and bloom poorly.
Crops can be done in open ground or cold greenhouses. It will be more convenient to care for the seedlings if you arrange the crops in rows. They are made shallow and preferably not thickened. The emergence of seedlings can be expected in a week or two.
Seedling care
Those who have sown violets in greenhouses, with the emergence of shoots, should not forget to remove the frames. The grown seedlings dive according to the 8x8 cm pattern. If you are afraid to perform such an operation with delicate plants, the crops can only be thinned out.
Viola is transplanted to a permanent place in August. By this time they should be 2-3 weeks old. The distance between the planting holes is 20-25 cm, depending on the variety and size of future flowers. Your pets will bloom next year.
In early spring, the land in the flowerbed will need to be loosened. Mineral fertilizers are recommended. For this, ammonium nitrate and superphosphate are useful. Take 20 g of each substance per 1 square meter. Also, do not forget about watering, especially during periods of drought.
If you want to get a flowering plant in one year, you must remember to sow violets in February. Seeds are placed in a container with moist nutrient mixture and left in a dark place at a temperature of +15.. + 20 ° C. The main thing here is not to overdo it with heating. If the temperature in the room rises to + 25 ° C, you can not wait for the shoots. And when the seedlings appear, the room should become even cooler than at the stage of seed germination - up to + 10 ° C. You also need good lighting. Therefore, before moving to the ground, containers with seedlings can be taken out on the veranda or balcony.
