After the first frosts, most of the perennials lost their attractive appearance. The most persistent was the decorative physalis. Looking at the latest bright colors, there is a desire to purchase an unusual flower for your collection. How to grow it on your site? What ways can you get the planting material for these beautiful "lanterns"?

Physalis reproduces decorative in three ways:

1. Seeds.

2. Cuttings.

3. By dividing the rhizome.

Let's dwell on each option in more detail.

Seed method

If it is not possible to find ready-made bushes, then start breeding ornamental varieties of physalis from seeds. They are sold at garden stores. The sowing period is the beginning or mid-April at home and in heated greenhouses, the beginning of May - under films in greenhouses.

We fill small containers with fertile soil. We cut grooves with a depth of 0.5 cm. We evenly lay out the pre-soaked seeds. We fill up with the remaining soil. Cover with foil.

The first shoots appear in a week. To avoid stretching the sprouts, the bowls are transferred to a moderately cool, well-lit place. As the soil dries up, it is watered in small portions with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, avoiding severe waterlogging.

Once every 2 weeks, they feed Kemira Lux with a complex fertilizer at a rate of a small pinch on the tip of a knife for 1 liter of water. By the beginning of planting, the plants are accustomed to open ground conditions, leaving them in the shade of trees for several days.

In cold film greenhouses, the technique is similar to the home one. With the difference that sowing is done directly on the beds. Here, the seedlings are stronger.

At the end of May, young plants are planted in a permanent place, setting the distance between the bushes 40-45 cm.

Cuttings

For cuttings in mid-July, the tops of adult plants with three buds are cut. Withstand a day in a root solution. They are planted on previously prepared beds with loose fertile soil with a distance of 15-20 cm. They moisten the soil well.

Cover with a small piece of film. 1-2 times a week, depending on weather conditions, watered abundantly. The best place for a cuticle is in a cool partial shade.

After 3-4 weeks, the rooted bushes begin to grow. The films are gradually removed by the end of August, so that before the frost the plants have time to get used to the conditions of open ground.

In the first year, cuttings and seedlings are best covered with spruce branches or non-woven material through a box. This technique will help keep plants with a weak root system from frost. In subsequent years, winter protection is not required.

Division of bushes

The easiest way to propagate physalis is by dividing the overgrown rhizomes. 6-7 year old plants are carefully dug up with a shovel. Cleared from the ground. Divide into pieces.

They form small pits. Spill water over the earth. Spread the roots. Sprinkle with soil, carefully compact the top layer.

This procedure is carried out in early spring or late August. It is better to cover autumn plantings with a layer of leaf litter for the winter.

Ornamental physalis rhizomes grow very quickly, taking up all the free space. It is possible to restrain their spread throughout the site by digging in a natural barrier to a depth of 30-40 cm. For these purposes, the following are suitable: restrictive garden tape, containers without a bottom, pieces of slate or iron.

Preparation of floristic material

To preserve the bright colors of beautiful physalis bolls, it is necessary to properly prepare the floral material. The branches are cut at the stage of complete coloring of the "lanterns". Unripe cups will remain faded, so do not rush to harvest the plants in the fall.

The foliage is completely removed with pruning shears. Arrange in separate containers, cut down, single branches for complex or 5-6 pieces for one-component bouquets. Dry for several days until completely dry in a ventilated room on the shady side.

Winter bouquets

The decorative physalis acquires the greatest value in winter compositions. It goes well with globular homphrene, lunaria, gelichrizum, openwork gypsophila.

Such bouquets have been decorating the interior of the room for several years. They do not lose their decorative effect. Give us a piece of summer on cold winter days.

Be sure to plant this flower, beautiful in all respects, on your site. Let the little sun settle in your house forever!
