Graceful bead (lat. Tamarix gracilis) - a flowering representative of the genus Bisernik (Tamariks) of the Tamariks family. Other names are graceful comb, graceful tamarix. In nature, it grows mainly in the Caucasus, Mongolia, China, the steppes of Kazakhstan and in some regions of Russia. Nowadays it is actively cultivated in Europe and the Russian Federation. One of the cold-resistant types used for decorating personal backyards and large city parks and gardens.
Characteristics of culture
Graceful bead, or Tamarix graceful, is represented by perennial flowering shrubs no more than 3.5-4 m high, bearing thick gray-green or chestnut branches with a brown tint, equipped with light specks forming in the leaf axils. The foliage, in turn, is lanceolate, rather large, often pointed, tiled.
The flowers are small, deep pink, collected in large paniculate inflorescences, reaching a length of 4-7 cm, formed at the ends of the shoots. The flowering of graceful beads is observed in late spring. Flowering is long lasting, with optimal care and good climatic conditions, continues until early September. Outwardly, the shrub is very unusual, or rather original. It looks great in both single and group plantings.
Its main advantage over other members of the genus is its high frost-resistant properties. He tolerates cold winters without any problems, even without shelter. Even if the unripe shoots freeze on the plant, with the onset of heat, the shrub is fully restored and pleases its owners with thick inflorescences, literally covered with small beads-beads. By the way, it is for this reason that the representatives of the Bisernik family received such a name.
Surprisingly to many, the species in question is suitable not only for decorating areas, its shoots with flowering brushes are suitable for cutting. They stand in a vase for a long time, however, with a constant change of water. In a matter of minutes, cut flowering shoots fill the room with an exciting and very subtle aroma, which gives a feeling of freedom, comfort and peace. Similarly, graceful beads affect the human consciousness and sense of smell, being located in the garden.
Growing features
It is important to note that graceful beads do not belong to the category of whimsical plants in terms of soil. It develops without any problems on dry and poor soils. However, experienced gardeners are advised to cultivate the plant on drained, moderately moist, nutritious, loose, alkaline soils. Cultivation on waterlogged, acidic, heavy clay soils is impossible. On them, the culture feels defective, is often attacked by pests and diseases, and often dies.
Cultivation on acidic soils can be carried out, but subject to prior liming. In no case should you plant an elegant tamarix in areas with stagnant water, it will not endure such a community. By the way, graceful beads are drought-resistant, but this does not mean that they do not need watering. On the contrary, watering is recommended regularly, but in moderation, especially during prolonged drought.
Of the care procedures, do not forget about the periodic thinning of the bushes. Old and diseased shoots, as well as thickening branches, are removed. Preventive spraying against pests and diseases is also important for culture, and at least 2-3 times per season. For protection, it is recommended to use biological products.
Anti-aging pruning also takes place. It is carried out five years later. The plant is cut almost to the very base, leaving a short stump. Reproduction of the culture in question is carried out mainly by cuttings, the seed method is used extremely rarely, because it requires a lot of time and effort. Cutting, on the other hand, does not differ from the technique used in the case of branched beads.
