Weigela hybrid (lat. Weigela hybrida) - flowering shrub; a representative of the Weigela genus of the Honeysuckle family. Several forms are combined under the name, which differ from each other in the color of leaves and flowers. Varieties and forms of weigela hybrid were obtained by crossing between some species: weigela abundantly flowering, weigela Korean, weigela flowering and weigela garden. In natural conditions, hybrids are not found. In gardening, they are more popular than wild species. Today, there are about 180 forms of weigela hybrid.
Characteristics of culture
Weigala hybrid is most often represented by low shrubs with a spreading crown, characterized by abundant flowering. Flowers are white, purple, pink, pink-violet or violet-carmine, fragrant, tubular-funnel-shaped, single or collected in loose inflorescences, bloom on young dense leafy shoots.
All forms and varieties are different in winter hardiness, but in the conditions of central Russia they need shelter, especially for young shrubs. In severe winters without shelter, weigels suffer from frost, but with the onset of spring they recover.
The process of sheltering the weigela hybrid causes some difficulties. The thing is that shrubs have very fragile wood and a soft core, and when they are tilted to the soil surface, they can break. So that the spruce branches, used as a covering material, as well as the accumulating snow, do not break the bush, an additional wire frame is installed near it.
Weigela hybrid, unlike other representatives of the genus, is quite demanding on growing conditions. She does not tolerate dry, waterlogged, poor, highly acidic, compacted, waterlogged, saline and heavy clay soils. Fertile and moderately moist substrates are optimal.

It is characterized by shrubs up to 1.5 m high with a spreading crown, large pink flowers with variegation and spike-shaped limb.
