Fusarium is perhaps one of the most unpleasant infectious diseases of cucumber lashes. Since it is, of course, amenable to treatment, but very badly, the lashes quickly wither and do not bear fruit. In addition, it is extremely problematic to remove this infection from the garden. What to do and how to deal with this disease?
What is the danger of the disease and how it manifests itself
In my opinion, the biggest danger of this disease is that it cannot be seen at an early stage of plant development (both when grown in open ground and when growing seedlings), it manifests itself even when the cucumbers begin to bloom. The leaves gradually wither, the ovary turns yellow and crumbles, then it becomes thin and the stem itself dries. By the way, if the leaves of the plant begin to dry, break off the leaf with the handle and carefully examine the "scrapped". If the plant withers from a simple lack of moisture or overheating of the soil, then its vessels will be healthy, dark in color. But if the vessels have turned brown, then this is a reason to sound the alarm and urgently purchase medications (we will talk about them further), since Fusarium can very quickly "kill" the plant
Prevention
The best way to fight any disease is through prevention. In this case, pathogens enter the plant through the root from the soil. This means that we need to ensure that the virus is not in the first place on the site. Experienced gardeners try to disinfect the soil with boiling water or green manure, such as phacelia or mustard.
Also, preventive measures include accurate watering, without waterlogging, and the timely removal of excess moisture using a drainage system and the removal of bushes with signs of disease. Please note that diseased bushes cannot be used in the compost heap.
To reduce the chances of infesting the plants in your garden, choose varieties that are resistant to various diseases. Usually these are hybrid varieties, this is indicated on the package with seeds and the F1 mark is next to the name of the variety.
Treatment
Fusarium is insidious because its pathogens have a very high survival rate, which complicates the fight against the disease. It is difficult to cure the plant, but it is possible, although it is still better to carry out prevention. For the treatment of the above disease, chemicals, bioactive and folk remedies can be used. Let's dwell on each type more similar.
Folk remedies
Probably, each region has its own recipes for combating fusarium. I'll write the one that I know about, but, to be honest, I haven't tested it in action. For 2.5 liters of water, you need to take 1 liter of ordinary milk whey, mix them and process the cucumbers with the resulting mixture. It can also be used as a preventive measure.
Bioactive agents are aimed at destroying pathogens if your area is already affected by fusarium. These means treat the soil shortly before planting plants in open ground. The specific terms and methods of application should be read on the packaging with the bioactive agent you purchased.
By the way, these remedies are good not only for treatment, but also excellent for the prevention of fusarium. If you use them as a prophylactic agent, then keep in mind that they can be used to treat not only the soil, but also cucumber seedlings.
Chemicals are also good at fighting fusarium, but mostly at an early stage. Please note that different products of the chemical industry are suitable for different periods of plant development. Some, for example, cultivate seeds, others seedlings, and others - the soil. Read the labeling information carefully to get the most out of the drug.
And, most importantly, do not forget to remove diseased lashes and process neighboring plants.
