Cucumbers are a thermophilic crop that grows in almost any soil. The main thing for this type of plant is warmth and sunlight. But still, this unpretentious culture has its own secrets. Which? I will talk about this in the article.
It would seem that there is nothing difficult in growing cucumbers: he threw the seeds into the ground, watered them, and wait for the shoots. But in reality, everything is much more complicated. There is not one type of growing cucumbers, but several:
- planting by seedlings;
- growing by seeds;
- growing on a trellis (arch, mesh)
- and the most interesting and unusual - growing in a barrel.
What is the difference between all these methods of growing cucumbers? Let's consider each type in more detail
Planting seedlings. For this method, you need to prepare (or buy) seedlings in advance. When the soil warms up to 15-17 degrees Celsius, the seedlings can be planted in the soil.
Growing by seeds in a spread. This method is used mainly on "flat" beds, where the plants have nothing to cling to in order to trail. In this case, the arrangement of the lashes will allow the plant to make the most of the sunlight. However, there is a significant disadvantage here - you need to be very careful with cucumber lashes. Any, even the smallest damage, can lead to the fact that, due to recovery, the plant will not bear fruit for some time.
Growing on a trellis (arch, mesh). This method of cucumbers has several advantages: firstly, the garden takes up less space than when grown in a spread, secondly, it is much easier to harvest the crop without damaging the lash, and thirdly, when grown in this way, the yield of cucumbers is higher.
How to grow cucumbers in this way? Everything is very simple. If you want to grow cucumbers on a garden arch, then first place the arch in the right place. It must be installed securely so that it does not sway from the wind. After installation on 2 sides of the arch, we make grooves and plant cucumbers in them (even with seedlings, even with seeds - the method of planting depends only on your desire). Every day we observe the growth of the lashes, directing the appearing antennae to the arch. After the cucumbers have entrenched, you do not need to follow, the rest of the antennae will find support on their own.
Growing on a trellis or netting is not much different from growing on an arch. The only thing, in this case, first, in the place we need, we make 2 long grooves, into which we plant cucumbers with seeds or seedlings. We bury, water thoroughly and proceed to the next stage. Approximately in the middle, between two rows at the beginning, middle and end of the row (if the rows are long) or at the beginning and end (if the short ones are happy) we hammer stakes or reinforcement (better - reinforcement, it will be more reliable and stable, and even higher). Now we stretch from stake to stake a wire (trellis) or a special net for climbing plants. As it grows, if necessary, we tie up the cucumber lashes or simply direct them.
This method is convenient because it takes up little space, the harvest is very easy, all cucumbers are "in sight", but the possibility of injury to cucumber lashes is minimal. And by the way, cucumbers planted in this way are very convenient to water.
And the last way is barrel cultivation. Metal, plastic, and possibly wooden barrels are carefully filled in this way: straw, dust, dry grass without seeds are placed on the bottom, then a layer of any manure, after which the barrel is filled with earth to the top. That is, we get a nutrient layer underground. Pour all this thoroughly with warm water, cover with polyethylene and forget about our structure for 7-10 days, so that all this will stand.
After this time, we remember the barrel and cucumbers, take the seeds and move to the planting site. We plant several seeds in each barrel, and then cover with foil until germination. After the sprouts appear, we remove the polyethylene, install a small arch from the barrel, then all care consists in the timely watering of the plants.
Advantages of this method: the decor of the barrel (a barrel braided with a cucumber vine with an arch located in the barrel itself looks very interesting), the "bed" takes up little space, it is convenient to harvest, there is no need to feed the cucumbers.

Fusarium In Cucumbers: Methods Of Prevention And Treatment
Fusarium is perhaps one of the most unpleasant infectious diseases of cucumber lashes. Since it is, of course, amenable to treatment, but very badly, the lashes quickly wither and do not bear fruit. In addition, it is extremely problematic to remove this infection from the garden. What to do and how to deal with this disease?
How To Distinguish Salad Cucumbers From Pickled Cucumbers?
Everyone knows what cucumbers look like. But does everyone know how to distinguish salad cucumbers from pickled ones? By the way, the ability to identify certain qualities of cucumbers by their appearance is a very valuable skill, because not always what we expected grows from purchased seeds. How to distinguish salad cucumbers from their counterparts intended for pickling? It turns out that this can be done on several grounds at once
Growing Cucumbers On The Windowsill
Many of us are not averse to eating fresh cucumbers, especially in winter, when the temperature outside the window is freezing, and the lack of vitamins does not affect the body for the better. In supermarkets, their prices bite, and the taste is delicious. But there is a solution - even a person who does not understand garden cultures is quite capable of growing cucumbers at home, for example, on a windowsill. If you follow certain rules and advice in this matter, then success is guaranteed
Problems With Growing Cucumbers
Problems in growing cucumbers - many summer residents are faced with the fact that the harvest does not turn out the way they would like to see it. Very often this can be associated with the occurrence of pests or with the appearance of various diseases. However, sometimes all problems are associated with improper plant care. In this article, we will talk about possible problems with growing cucumbers and how to avoid them
