The early potatoes have long been harvested, soon the beds will be free of cucumbers and tomatoes, cabbage will ripen, and the site will be empty. But isn't it wasteful to treat the land like that? After all, this place can be used for winter landings. Moreover, these crops will be excellent predecessors for garlic beds
Small garlic, but expensive
Not allocating a garden bed for garlic is a big omission. It may not be the kind of vegetable that you can get enough of, but you cannot do without it on the farm. First of all, it is a first-class natural preservative. When harvesting cucumbers and tomatoes for the winter, it will not be difficult without it. It is also a great seasoning. It is enough to add a little garlic to the dish to spice it up.
Among other things, garlic has the right to be called a medicinal plant. This is the first assistant in the fight against viral colds. It has such an effect due to the content of phytoncides, as well as vitamin C - this is a harmful environment for pathogens. Few people know that garlic lowers blood pressure, improves the activity of the digestive system. And garlic also has a rejuvenating effect on the human body. Is there still a doubt about whether to grow garlic in your garden?
Shooting garlic - in the basement or in the garden?
In order not to miscalculate with the planting of garlic before winter, you need to choose those varieties that are winter. Arrowing varieties have such characteristics. But if you put such garlic for long-term storage, the chives may not survive the winter - they are poorly stored. You should also know that the decision to carry out the autumn planting of winter garlic will delight the owner in the future with a multi-toothed bulb. But when to plant it in the spring, there is a high probability of getting only a single-tooth bulb.
Shooting garlic is planted in open ground at such a time that there is a supply of 3-4 weeks before the arrival of stable cold weather - so the cloves will have time to take root well enough, but the leaves will not grow yet. In the middle lane, this time falls approximately in mid-September - early October.
In addition, arrowhead varieties are good for planting before winter because at this time the most optimal weather conditions are formed to preserve the planting material in the ground and its rapid development and early harvest in spring. It will be a wise use of nutrients accumulated in the soil and a rational use of spring moisture. As a rule, the harvest with podzimny sowing is better:
• inflorescences and bulbs grow large;
• bulbs form and ripen at a higher rate compared to spring plantings;
• the size of the cloves is pleasing with its size.
But if you plant the garlic late, then there is a risk that the planting material of the plant will freeze out. In addition, the growing season becomes longer, the bulbs are formed smaller, and the yield is noticeably reduced.
Planting garlic
The most ergonomic planting of garlic is with five-line ribbons. 20 cm gaps are left between the lines, and the interval between the holes is about 6-8 cm. This rule applies to cloves and one-toothed teeth. Garlic is disassembled into cloves only before planting; this should not be done in advance. When the bulb is planted, a gap of about 15 cm is left between the rows, and the distance from hole to hole is made no more than 2 cm.
With winter plantings, the depth of immersion of the garlic will be greater than with spring plantings. For cloves, it will be about 6-7 cm, and for bulbs - no more than 3 cm. In addition, after planting the plants in the ground, it is useful to cover the beds with a 2-cm layer of peat or earth from a greenhouse. Sawdust, humus can also be used as mulch.
