Hyacinth Litvinov (lat. Hyacinthus litwinowii) - flowering decorative culture; a representative of the genus Hyacinth, belonging to the Asparagus family. It occurs naturally in the eastern regions of Iran and Turkmenistan. Hyacinth Litvinov is actively used in ornamental gardening, as it is distinguished by its extraordinary beauty.
Characteristic culture
Litvinov's hyacinth is represented by perennial herbaceous plants, reaching a height of 20-25. There are also undersized specimens 10-12 cm high. In culture, Litvinov's hyacinth, like other representatives of the genus, are cultivated as annuals. The bulbs of the species under consideration are ovoid, with a diameter of no more than 4 cm. Peduncles are presented in an amount of 1-2 pieces.
The foliage is not numerous, lanceolate, deviated, rather wide, thin, naked, can be either pointed or obtuse. The flowers are small, bluish, lilac, sometimes with light green, collected in dense racemes, equipped with filmy bracts. Litvinov's hyacinth bloom occurs in mid - late April. The species boasts high winter-hardy properties.
Location and soil preparation
Hyacinth Litvinova belongs to demanding crops that require intense light and fertile soil. It is not forbidden to grow the plant both in open areas and close to shrubs and trees with openwork foliage that allows a sufficient amount of light to pass through. The location is preferably calm, strong winds can break the fragile hyacinth stalks.
Soils are desirable cultivated, fertilized, permeable, moderately moist, the culture has a negative attitude to waterlogging. On heavy soils, drainage in the form of peat or sand is required. Acidic soils are not suitable for growing the species in question, but with preliminary liming, cultivation is possible. To increase the fertility of the soil on the site for hyacinths, in no case should fresh organic fertilizers, including manure, be used.
Planting hyacinth Litvinov is recommended to be carried out in the third decade of September - the first decade of October. Spring planting is prohibited. The earlier described period should not be planted with hyacinths, since they can start growing, and die with the onset of frost. Planting late is just as damaging to the culture. Prepare the soil in advance, at least 10-14 days before the intended planting. The soil is carefully dug to a depth of 40-50 cm, mineral fertilizers (except nitrogen) and rotted humus are applied. Nitrogen fertilizers are applied with the onset of spring.
Landing
Litvinov's hyacinth bulbs are treated with a fungicide solution before planting. This procedure is a preventive measure against diseases that can harm the plant. Planting depth depends solely on the size of the bulb, and varies in the range of 12-20 cm. The optimal distance between the bulbs is 15-20 cm, between the rows - 20-25 cm. Too small bulbs are planted denser in order to prevent voids in the flower garden.
Immediately after planting the bulbs, the soil is abundantly moistened, preventing an excess of moisture, this can negatively affect the health of the planted material. In order to eliminate the risk of bulb rotting, a small amount of washed river sand of medium grain size can be poured onto the bottom of the hole. With the onset of cold weather, plantings are insulated. For these purposes, sawdust, dry foliage or peat will do. With the onset of heat, the shelter is removed, otherwise the bulbs will begin to rot and, in the end, will rot.
Care features
Caring for Litvinov's hyacinth consists of procedures that are standard for many flower cultures. Systematic watering, loosening, weeding and timely feeding are procedures on which the health of plants and, accordingly, the abundance of flowering depends. Particular attention should be paid to loosening the soil, compacted soil threatens with a number of problems.
Feeding is no less important for Litvinov's hyacinth. During the growing season, it is necessary to carry out 3 dressings. The first is carried out in early spring (with ammonium nitrate and superphosphate), the second at the time of bud formation (with potassium nitrate and superphosphate), and the third immediately after flowering (superphosphate and potassium sulfate).
