During autumn loosening and fertilization, many crops can be planted / sown under the tree. Consider flowers, vegetables that will grow in near-stem circles, here is an instruction for planting with an indication of the time

The owners of six acres are striving to rationally use the land. Young orchard, columnar pear / apple trees are ideal for planting in near-stem circles. The place around the tree can be sown not only in spring, but also in autumn with flowers and vegetables. It is important to choose the right plants that will not take up moisture, nutrition from the seedling, and know what fertilizers to apply.

Site preparation for landing

The main task when performing work is not to damage the surface roots located near the trunk. Loosening / digging is done 10-15 cm, deeper is not recommended.

The diameter of the root system is equal to the projection of the crown, in an adult tree about 3 m, in a young tree 1, 5-2. At this place, the grass and fallen leaves are removed, and a neat digging is performed. It is better to do this with a pitchfork, if you use a shovel, then bury it sideways to the trunk so that the plane of the bayonet stands with an edge to it.

In autumn, three types of fertilizers are applied to the orchard. For 1 sq / m 30 g of superphosphate + 200 g of ash, potassium monophosphate is given in liquid form (1 tablespoon + 10 liters of water, to activate assimilation + 1 tsp of citric acid). After digging, the ground is leveled with a rake so that there are no slopes.

2-3 days before planting, the soil is poured abundantly (20-30 liters per tree). If the water stagnates somewhere, adjust the ground level.

What to plant flowers in autumn

Before winter, you can sow marigolds, petunia, nasturtium, mattiola, escholzia, daisies, asters, calendula. From bulbous species with shallow deepening are suitable, for example: snowdrops, muscari, crocuses.

For pest problems, sow calendula, marigolds, or nasturtium. These plants contain phytoncides that do not tolerate pests and provide double benefits: beauty + health of the garden.

The beneficial effect will be enhanced by adding a substrate with endomycorrhizal fungi to the planting grooves / wells. Plants with mycorrhiza grow better, withstand the vagaries of the weather, are resistant to pathogens, to a lack of phosphorus fertilizers, and irregular watering. A biological product with endomycorrhiza is applied in liquid form or as a substrate (under the bulbs 1 tsp per hole or 2 tablespoons / 1 running meter).

Dates of planting flowers in autumn

Newbie summer residents often cannot choose the right time for winter planting, puzzled by the question of when to plant flowers before winter? Viola and bulbous bushes are planted 3-4 weeks before a steady cold snap.

They start sowing seeds later. The reference point is the beginning of night frosts and daytime temperatures + 5 … + 7. In the Moscow region, this period begins in the second decade of November.

It is important to consider that when sowing in the fall, more seeds are consumed. This is necessary for reinsurance against freezing - the density of plantings increases. After planting the seeds, the plantings are mulched and covered with spruce branches / non-woven fabric.

What vegetables to plant in trunk circles in the fall

Many crops will grow safely under the tree. Before winter, you can sow greens: parsley, dill, spinach, lettuce, onions, caraway seeds, lemon balm. You should start working after the onset of the first frost. The earth should not freeze yet and be within + 1 … + 5.

In addition to greens, black onions are planted in autumn to obtain sets. If your goal is to grow turnip, then buy varieties Sturon, Riesen, Bessonovsky, Shakespeare. You can plant small onions of other varieties, since they will not survive until spring.

In winter, there is a high probability of rotting / freezing, therefore, the onion planting is dense (shoulder to shoulder or in increments of 1 cm), the depth of the grooves is 4-5 cm. After work, the trunk circle is closed with fertile soil of a loose structure. For better wintering, they are mulched with hay / peat, in winters with little snow - spruce branches.
