Skin diseases, heart disease, kidney disease and other ailments - all this berry can handle! So why not eat it longer?

How to choose cherries on the market

When buying cherries on the market, first of all, you need to make sure that the berries are shiny and dark, without cracks or dents, and their tails are green and elastic. The dark color of the cherry is a sure sign that the berry contains a huge amount of nutrients. But it is better to refuse to purchase berries with signs of fermentation.

How long cherries are stored

Ripe fresh cherries are well stored from 48 hours to five days - after this time, fermentation begins in the berries, and they gradually lose their valuable properties. Ideally, it is recommended to eat cherries within the first 24 hours from the date of purchase.

Happy owners of their own garden have a great opportunity to grow cherries on their own. Juicy fruits should be harvested early in the morning, since in the morning they have the best pulp density. In years when the harvest is especially plentiful, it is recommended to pour freshly picked berries from buckets onto small bedspreads. With this method of storage, cherries will not flow, moreover, gardeners will have the opportunity to sort out berries, easily separating specimens with spoiled barrels from whole ones.

At home, cherries are recommended to be stored for a couple of days, no more - even if the collected berries will continue to differ in quite a decent appearance, they will gradually lose their rich taste and enchanting aroma and become watery.

If the cherry was collected in order to make various blanks out of it, then until this moment it is stored in a cool and dry place with unhindered access to air. In addition, from time to time you need to sort out the berries so that they do not start to deteriorate.

Cold storage

Cherries keep very well in the refrigerator if they are placed on the lowest shelf or in the fruit compartment. It is best to store this healthy berry at a temperature of about one degree, since at lower temperatures the cherry begins to turn brown. Before storage, it is recommended to pack it in paper bags, while it is desirable that all the berries are with tails - in this case, they will last much longer. Instead of paper bags, you can also use volumetric trays or even ceramic plates - this will evenly distribute the cherries over their entire surface. And so that the berries do not dry out, the containers are covered with paper towels or lids. By the way, you should not wash the berries before sending them for storage.

It is noteworthy that sweet cherries have one very interesting property: the longer it is stored, the higher the level of vitamin C in it will become. As a rule, its peak is observed on the third day of storage.

Freezer storage

Fans of homemade yoghurts and desserts with fresh berries are advised to store cherries in the freezer, having previously arranged them in special bags for berries, so that juicy cherries do not absorb the smells of nearby products (especially meat or fish) and continue to remain tasty and fresh. And defrosting them is as easy as shelling pears, especially if you have a microwave at home - just put a plate with a treat for a couple of minutes on the “Defrost” mode.

Before freezing, it is necessary to remove all traces of moisture from the berries, and then pack them in plastic or paper bags, from which you need to try to remove air as much as possible. And only then the berries are sent to the freezer. In this form, cherries are easily stored for up to a year, so do not neglect this storage method!
