The main period of planting work ended in June, and now it is a hot season for harvesting. But after crops such as onions, potatoes, beets and so on, there is a free, unoccupied place. Will it really be empty? Let's use this plot wisely and plant something on it
So, what can be planted in August and, most importantly, how to do it correctly? Crops such as radish, daikon, radish, daikon, various greens, including lettuce and watercress, are not afraid of late planting.
After we decide what to plant, we start preparing the site. If we plant seeds in the area where potatoes used to grow, then the earth does not need to be dug up, it is enough to carefully loosen and break the lumps (if any). Next, we prepare the holes. Gently make grooves 4-5 centimeters deep with a hoe, water well and leave alone until the liquid is completely absorbed. After that, we pour a thin layer of peat mixed with sand and earth, sow seeds, cover with the rest of the mixture.
So we prepare the beds and plant all types of selected seeds, including greens. In warm regions (Rostov Region, Krasnodar Territory, that is, the south of Russia), you can even plant potatoes, then at the end of October you can pamper yourself and your loved ones with delicious young potatoes with dill (which we planted with radishes).
After the end of planting vegetables, we will only have to water them in time, weed, loosen the soil and wait for the harvest. In the meantime, we can do other summer cottage affairs.
Let's move on to fruit trees. In August, you should be especially careful about the carrion. All fruits that fall to the ground must be picked from under the trees. All fruits affected by pests and diseases must be destroyed.
After the previous step, we carefully examine the fruit trees for the presence of pests. For example, in trees such as apricot, plum, cherry, sweet cherry and other stone fruits, the tops of their heads may fade due to damage by various pests and diseases. What needs to be done? It is necessary to cut off all the wilted branches, check that not a single one remains, after which all the affected processes are burned. In the same way, he examines apple, pear, quince and other similar trees. We cut off the affected branches, since they are most likely affected by corrosive arboreal trees. Timber moves are processed with "Fastak" or "Decis".
In addition, in August, it is imperative to treat trees from ticks and scab. By the way, scab is a very "harmful" disease, it may not manifest itself for the time being, but all the fruits affected by it will deteriorate during storage, infecting healthy ones.
How to treat trees against scab? Most often, gardeners spray the crown with a solution of copper sulfate, which is very simple to prepare. For 10 liters of water, take 50 grams. copper sulfate, bred and thoroughly spray all the plants on the site. In addition to vitriol solution, you can use "Polycarbacin" (in a proportion of 60 grams per 10 liters of water) or sulfur (40 grams per 10 liters of water).
Spraying with colloidal sulfur or "Sulfarid" helps a lot against ticks. In the first case, you need 90 grams of dry matter per 10 liters of water, in the second - 60 grams per 10 liters of liquid.
In addition, August is the time to prune stone fruit trees such as cherries, cherries and apricots. Why this particular month? During this period, plants do not release gum (gum is such a sticky, sticky substance of amber color, it is also called wood resin).
After pruning the trees, all cut branches must be removed from the site and destroyed in order to avoid the multiplication of various pests in them.
In the next article, we will continue talking about gardening in August.
